It’s no secret that Haigh’s Chocolates is a popular choice for Christmas gifts. So, it comes as no surprise that they regularly sell out in the days leading up to the holiday season.
Still, we were quite taken aback when news that one of their festive offerings had already sold out – just six weeks after going on sale!
Aussie-based chocolatier Haigh’s Chocolates have been making artisanal treats since 1915. But boxes of sweets aren’t the only thing they’ve offered to shoppers during the festive season.
The chocolatier also released a 2022 Luxury Advent Calendar recently – with a whopping price tag of $1,190.
Still, that didn’t deter shoppers from snagging their own limited-edition advent calendar. The product sold out within just six weeks of going on sale. Crazy, right?
The high-end product has 24 boxes filled with several limited-edition chocolates, some of which are exclusive to the calendar.
It also features never-before-seen dark orange fondant-filled frogs, milk chocolate lemon meringue pie, and 70 per cent cocoa solids gin liqueur.
The product’s packaging is based on the company’s first Haigh’s Chocolates store at Beehive Corner in Adelaide’s Rundle Mall.
CEO Alister Haigh said: ‘This year’s calendar celebrates more than 107 years of Haigh’s Chocolates and our very first store which opened at Beehive Corner in 1915.’
‘The decorative box design captures the beauty of the heritage-listed building with sophisticated detail and complements the selection of premium quality chocolates found inside each drawer,’ he explained at the time of the product’s release.
Mr Haigh also said that last year, when they launched the Luxury Advent Calendar, the feedback was ‘overwhelmingly positive’, and it was a great success – despite its price.
‘Our ongoing commitment to deliver world-class chocolate sees us continually evolve our product range to ensure we are creating the finest chocolates year-round. Our chocolatiers’ artisan skill shines through in every chocolate crafted for this unique calendar.’
Shoppers, however, were divided over the cost of the item.
‘I love Haigh’s Chocolates, but that’s not within [the] average person’s budget no matter how nice they are. Why not do a $119 version with one or two chocs per drawer?’ Said one customer.
Another responded: ‘I disagree with it being overpriced. This is a luxury item. Limited edition. They have the cheaper version for $24.50 as well. Haigh’s Chocolate is absolutely worth the price.’
Please note, the cheaper option they’re referring to seems to simply be a calendar with room to add your own chocolate – sweets not included.
Someone else simply wrote about how they love Haigh’s Chocolates.
‘The chocolates in here sound amazing.’
Now that stocks are sold out, Haigh’s Chocolates are offering people the chance to get their hands on the limited-edition item!
On their website, they are giving away luxury advent calendars to three lucky winners. Participants will have to share (in 30 words or less) what their favourite Haigh’s Christmas tradition is. The competition will close on November 13 (that’s tomorrow!) at 11:59 PM. All participants must reside in Australia.
There you have it, folks! Let us know your thoughts about this in the comments below! Will you be entering the competition? You never know members; you could be one of the lucky winners!
