This 'hidden' price tag detail will help you save money at Kmart!

Aussie bargain hunters, we have some good news and some bad news for you.

The bad news is that retail giant Kmart is set to introduce price hikes on a range of items in their 2023 stock. The good news? There's a nifty little detail on the price tags that will help you save money!

As any savvy shopper knows, Kmart is a great place to find a bargain – but recently, one shopper found that there's a way to save even more money at this already (mostly) affordable store.

Here's what happened: a customer named Jess was outraged after she noticed a $2 price difference between two pairs of culotte shorts - one she had purchased earlier this year for $15, and purchased again recently for $17.

And when we say 'outraged', we mean that Jess took to Facebook to express her displeasure at the store. 'I don't know why they would have gone up, they are exactly the same shorts. I'm a bit disappointed,' she said.

However, eagle-eyed shoppers who commented on her post quickly pointed out something interesting about the two pairs of culottes in question: the tags read either '22S' (Summer 2022) or '23S' (Summer 2023).

What does this mean? Well, it turns out that those with the latter will be priced to account for inflation, which is currently 7.3 per cent in Australia.

So essentially, Kmart has hiked up prices on their Summer 2023 stock to offset inflationary pressures - but they haven't done so yet with their Summer 2022 range.

This means that if you're looking to buy an item from Kmart's current selection, you're likely better off going for whatever has '22S' written on it rather than '23S'. Simple!

Of course, this only applies to seasonal items like shorts – but considering how often Kmart brings out new stock, there's bound to be something on your shopping list that falls into this category.

After reading about the woman's experience with the pricing at Kmart, some commenters pointed out that it's important to remember that businesses still need to make enough money to cover their expenses - especially given how tough things have been over the last 12 months due largely to the pandemic restrictions and lockdowns.

As one person said: 'They (Kmart) have the same bills/expenses as everyone else, they can't not put their price up. Besides, it's not like it's a massive amount. That's pretty reasonable for a pair of shorts.'

'The cost of everything has gone up a great deal this year. You will notice increases on most things going forward,' another user added to the conversation.
Key Takeaways

  • Kmart is introducing price hikes for its Summer 2023 stock due to inflation, which is currently at 7.3 per cent.
  • Kmart customers are advised to check the tags on items to see if they are from the Summer 2022 or Summer 2023 collection.

So there you have it, members! The next time you're doing your shopping at Kmart, keep an eye out for that all-important '22S' or '23S' on the price tag and save yourself a few bucks in the process.

Happy shopping, bargain hunters!

Gee, with everything going up, I'm more surprised that they aren't just putting higher prices on all stock rather than just new!

I know everything has gone up, but I too was disappointed when I bought a new pair of jogger jeans ( the most comfy jeans I’ve ever worn) and they’d gone up from $20 last year to $22 now.
