This heart-warming Christmas surprise left road workers speechless!

Everyone knows that the festive season is a time for giving, but sometimes, kind gestures can come from an unexpected interaction.

This was the case for road workers doing holiday maintenance in Queensland, who received a very special care package – complete with a touching note.

The magical spirit of Christmas is alive and well, and nobody embodies it more than this good Samaritan who made the effort to surprise a group of road workers recently.

The maintenance team were busy repairing Obi Obi Road, located a few kilometres from Queensland's Sunshine Coast when they received an unexpected care package filled with homemade baked chocolate chip biscuits and a heartfelt note.

‘Dear Roadworkers, thank you for grading the Obi,’ the note said.

‘Yet again, it was in a state of problems. Merry Christmas to you all. Thanks, again.’

The handwritten letter was signed by a woman named Beverley, who came from the tiny town of Mapleton.

Queensland’s Transport and Main Roads department shared the touching moment on Facebook, which quickly amassed positive comments from social media users.

‘The sweetest Christmas presents are the ones you don’t expect,’ they said.

The road grading is part of Queensland’s 2021-22 road and transport investment which has a budget pledge of $27.5 billion.

Road grading removes potholes and protruding rocks by cutting and levelling a road to restore the driving surface.

‘We carry out routine maintenance across state-controlled roads all the time—but it's not every day we get greeted with such warm hospitality!’ The maintenance team revealed that the local woman gave them the ‘treats’ as a reminder that they’re making a difference to the community.

‘The bickies were gone within minutes but we’ll remember this one for years to come!’

Many were delighted with the kind gesture from the woman.

‘Onya Bevo, good Christmas spirit!’ Praised one.

‘That is sensational. Great job, Beverley!’ Added another.

One Facebook user said the story was ‘so wholesome’.

Someone else asked: ‘Were they good cookies though?’

Another mused that maybe the woman was trying to butter up the workers so they return for routine maintenance check-ups.

A woman reminded the road workers to ‘remember to return the dish’.

While some tried to bribe the workers to come visit their areas and do maintenance work in exchange for baked goods as well.

‘Happy to give a bucket of biscuits if you put a set of lights at the intersection of Mount Mee Road and Dag Highway. Two buckets if it happens before the Woodford Folk Festival 2023.’

Not a new idea, but a great one. I was a "postie" for 20 years and kind gestures or smiles always helped brighten my mood. Yes, I was just doing my job. But unexpected gestures nearly always up lift spirits. You never know what a simple kind gesture can do. This story brought back a memory for me. Mrs Taylor, an elderly lady on my round, at Christmas time would gift me some lovely homemade Rocky Road (to this day, never tasted any better). So folks an unconditional gesture, an act of kindness does make the world a better place. Merry Christmas to you all.
