This genius Kmart hack will help you make the perfect, budget-friendly Christmas gift!

When it comes to Christmas, we can all agree that one of the most stressful parts is coming up with gift ideas – especially if you have a large family or a long list of friends.

Not only do you have to worry about finding the right gift for each person, but you also need to make sure it doesn't blow your budget. This can be a real challenge, especially if money is tight this year.

If you're struggling to come up with inexpensive yet thoughtful present ideas, we may have just the thing for you.

One creative grandmum decided to put her DIY skills to the test when it came to giving her friend's granddaughter a gift for her 16th birthday.

Sharing her project on the Kmart Home Decor and Hacks Facebook group, the grandma wrote that she has always considered her friend's granddaughter as her own grandchild, so when it was time for the festivities for the birthday girl's special day, she was determined to make it memorable and unique.

She was then inspired to make a DIY gift box full of the granddaughter's most-loved things!

The grandma used Kmart's $14 Shadow Box Frame to put together a stylish gift package, which she filled with chocolates, a necklace, keychains, and other souvenirs.

She kept the gift box as simple and gorgeous as possible, decorating it with sparkly stickers bearing the girl's name.

The grandma also shared that she used double-sided tape from the stationery department to hold everything in place. She also advised using sticky tape on some of the items.

It didn't take long for other group members to take notice of the post, with several claiming that this is their preferred method of gifting their grandchildren and praising the idea for its simplicity and practicality.

One user wrote: 'Did one for my daughter a couple of years ago - and now this is the only way we gift her - she loves it - easy and she just gives us back the frame to reuse.'

'Made them as place cards at the Christmas table. Everyone had their own to open at the table,' another added.

However, one user seemed to be divided on whether she would try this for her grandchildren as she finds that the shadow boxes are too shallow.

'I want to do something like this as a Christmas present for my grandkids,' she said.

'I wish they still made the deeper shadow box frames, it’s just not the same.'

One user then replied to the comment, suggesting using wine gift boxes instead.

'You can get wine gift boxes with a perspex lid which are much deeper,' she recommended.

'Spotlight and Riot and Craft used to have them.'

Key Takeaways

  • If you're looking for a cheap and personalised Christmas gift, consider using a Kmart Shadow Box Frame to pack some chocolates, keychains, and other items.
  • You can use 2-sided tape or sticky tape to secure the items in the frame.
  • This would make a great Christmas present for your grandchildren or place cards on the Christmas table.

There you have it, folks! If you're stuck for ideas this holiday season and are working with a tight budget, remember that it's the thought that counts. With a little effort (and not too much expense), you can create something memorable and special for your loved ones.

Also, just a little bit of a reminder. We previously covered a story similar to the gift idea but with the mum facing backlash after including items that are not 'age-appropriate'. So, we recommend double-checking the items before including them in the box.

I think this is a brilliant idea, you can spread the cost over several weeks or months, buying different little things as you see them. I just wish I had someone to buy for as I'd love to do this. :)
You can buy for me....I collect Owls, anything WWE, Star Trek and to do with colouring in........LMAO
