This generous cat's nightly dinner ritual with a local stray will touch your heart

Cats are wonderfully independent and fascinating creatures with a range of distinct personalities.

Some will be stand-offish and would rather stay away from people in favour of exploring the great outdoors (or indoors) on their own, while others will thrive in a household environment where their humans proudly display their affection for them day in and day out.

Today, we'd like to share a heartwarming story about one household cat—and its special bond with an adoptable stray from down the road.

Meet Rocco, a black and white bi-colour (with his fur looking like a tuxedo) cat who has been particularly generous to a tabby stray during dinner time!

Every evening, just before dinner, he meows at his owner to remind her to make an extra bowl of cat food for his feline companion.

He then heads to the screen door and calls for the cute kitty outside to join him.

It doesn't take long before the tabby appears. Although he is still wary of humans, despite being fed by the family for the last two years, he manages to lap up a giant bowl of homemade cat food each night.

In a heartwarming clip posted on social media, we get to see how the two cats enjoy their meal under the watchful eye of the homeowner.

The scene quickly captured the hearts of social media users, and the footage immediately gained 44,000 likes on its first upload.

You can watch Rocco and his friend interact here:

People commented on the heartwarming scene playing out before their eyes with glowing remarks such as: ‘Aww, little babies are besties. So sweet of both of you to invite him for dinner. I'm sure he appreciates a full belly each night’, and ‘My heart is melting’.

Another person remarked: ‘Cats have such deep understanding. He looks back for permission.’ to which Rocco’s owner replied, ‘He is my first cat ever, and I am truly amazed at how smart they are.’

Someone asked: ‘Does the feral cat have a clipped left ear? Hard to tell with the fur, but may mean he was neutered by a rescue group.’

Rocco’s owner confirmed their speculation, writing that the tabby was ‘trap-neuter-returned (TNR'd) 5 years ago’.

The owner also mentioned that the stray is always welcome a their home ‘whenever he is ready’, but the cat has been cautious around humans and doesn’t enter their house when invited.

In a recent post, the homeowner has given an update about the tabby: he finally entered and explored their house. The stray even slept on a cat bed the owner left by the door, which many considered a huge improvement!

You can watch that video here.

Rocco’s owner wrote: ‘Some of you have asked me what I would name him, I’ve always thought Coconut, I think it fits him very well.’

Why not wait for the kitty to come in and then close the door and tell the cat you like it so much you would like it to stay and keep Rocco company - obviously Rocco likes the kitty (and the owner too) - and that it would no longer have to be hungry at any time and would have a much nicer life than out in the cruel big bad world. I'd then get it vet checked to make sure it had nothing that could pass on to the other cat and get it wormed and flea/tick treated etc. And spend time working on giving it attention (but don't forget Rocco gets as just as much or the green eyed monster will come out).
Just cause it is stray doesn't mean it doesn't deserve a cushy life. It would be much better than the poor cutie ending up in a council trap; wheel's disease or in the local chinese shop's food (going by experience - i lived across from the back door to a chinese shop and they were catching strays and put it this way they ended up being shut down for the chicken that was not chicken when someone found parts of a kitty in their food fur and all - the mongrels even used to call out to me that they 'liked' my cat while sharpening their knives out the back. I used to tell them they were not getting my cat (an indoor/conservation cat) they'd answer with 'here kitty kitty' and i'd flip them the bird and close the door which meant she couldn't see out the screen door. they had the trap cages piled there - the council and health department did not act until the furry 'chicken' was found in someones food.
Yes i realise NOT every chinese shop is like that one was - they were probably an exception.
