This device ended a two-month chase between a homeowner and a thief!

The internet is a treasure trove for stories that seem straight out of fictional content we enjoy—only better because they all happen in real life.

In a tale akin to a detective novel, an Adelaide homeowner turned her frustration into fuel for an elaborate plan to end a two-month feud.

The victim first reported an incident last January, when an unidentified thief stole her Monstera plant at around 2:17 AM.

Emboldened by their success, the thief returned twice to steal a pair of Philodendrons from the resident's collection.

The homeowner decided enough was enough and resorted to a pricey yet called-for measure.

'I decided to go all in. I bought a pack of Apple AirTags and planted them on the best-looking plants I have left,' they recounted.

The strategy paid off after almost two months.

The thief struck again, not realising they were now carrying a plant with a high-tech stowaway.

Despite previous police reports, the lack of evidence left the authorities no way to act on the theft.

Now armed with the location data from the Airtag, the homeowner tracked the stolen plant to the thief's residence.

In a display of remarkable patience, the plant owner camped out for six gruelling hours, waiting for the familiar vehicle of the perpetrator to appear.

'I immediately provided the address and licence plate and updated my case with the police,' they said, setting the wheels of justice in motion.

Months of anxiety over the fate of their plants finally ended on one Wednesday, when the homeowner was informed by a 'patrol team of three officers' that they were on a mission to 'retrieve the plants'.

Although the thief was not home, the officers found the repotted plants in their backyard.

The police's efforts bore fruit, quite literally, as they returned the plants to their rightful owner.

'After getting approval, another two officers rocked up in a ute and returned those plants to me,' the homeowner shared with relief.

The story of the plant owner's ingenuity and perseverance quickly spread among the local Adelaide community on social media, where the tale was met with cheers and admiration.

'You are an absolute legend,' one commented.

'I would love to hear the final outcome of the thieves getting their comeuppance in court,' another chimed in.

One comment encouraged readers to celebrate the operation’s success with some ‘soothing tea’.

‘Technology like AirTags can be used to provide extra security for property and valuable items,' a police spokesperson advised.

‘Police recommend that users keep their details up to date to assist in tracking the items if they are stolen.’
