This couple’s $5 forgotten purchase turns into a $100,000 jackpot: ‘It feels so surreal’

Imagine this: you're doing a bit of spring cleaning, rummaging through odds and ends in your bedside drawer, and you stumble upon a forgotten $5 purchase that's about to change your life.

That's exactly what happened to a lucky couple from Albion Park Rail in the NSW Illawarra region, who found themselves holding a scratchie ticket worth a whopping $100,000!

The couple, who chose to remain anonymous, were in utter disbelief when they realised the value of their find.

'After having the ticket sitting idle in our bedside drawer for a whole month, I'm feeling so relieved we found it when we did,' they shared.

'Can you imagine if we completely forgot about it? It all feels so surreal.'

The couple, who have enjoyed the simple pleasure of playing games together, never anticipated that their casual pastime would lead to such a significant financial boost.

‘We've always just enjoyed sitting down together and playing a game or two,' they said.

'This starts a whole new chapter for us, and we're so grateful.'

The local community shared in the couple's joy with Victor Costabile, the owner of Oak Flats Newsagency where the winning ticket was sold, expressing his delight.

'When I first heard our outlet had sold a top prize-winning ticket, I immediately thought of the winner and how happy they were going to be,' he said.

‘All our customers are very excited for the lucky winner, and it's the talk around the town.'
