We understand how pesky and persistent dirt and stains can be. It seems like no matter how many times we vacuum and scrub our rugs, there’s always that stubborn spot that just won't budge.

‘Oh my! I just did the saucepan lid cleaning trick on this rug. Very happy with the results. I was literally going to throw it out,’ Lisa wrote in her post and uploaded a photo of her rug alongside it.

She also shared a link to a video detailing the method she used to achieve remarkable results. You can watch the video here.

The innovative cleaning technique involves very few and easy-to-find ingredients: Just half a litre of warm water, one tablespoon of bicarb soda, and one tablespoon of dishwashing liquid.

The video then explained you should mix these ingredients until combined, soaking a microfibre towel in the mixture before wringing it out, leaving the towel slightly damp.

‘This trick also works to clean fabric chairs and beds.’

Here's where the magic happens: Viewers were advised to place a saucepan lid on top of the damp towel, wrapping and securing it with a rubber band.

The video then demonstrates cleaning a couch with the wrapped lid.

‘The stains will disappear immediately, and your couch will look new.’

And from the looks of Lisa's impressive rug transformation, it seems the same method applies just as well to rugs.

Social media users and fellow cleaning enthusiasts were blown away by the mum's before and after photos, with many eager to try the trick themselves. ‘Wow! That’s awesome!’ one Facebook user wrote.

‘Looks amazing,’ another added.

‘I’m going to try it,’ a third chimed in.

This story comes after consumer advocate CHOICE revealed the perfect DIY home cleaning solution to dealing with carpet stains – one that doesn’t involve buying expensive, store-bought carpet cleaners.

‘It topped our test, outperforming 24 other stain remover products, including one that cost as much as $23.95 – no small feat for a homemade concoction!’ CHOICE said in its report.

Looks amazing but what is it she drops in the bottom of the pan
The article says Just half a litre of warm water, one tablespoon of bicarb soda, and one tablespoon of dishwashing liquid. Just above the images of the tan ccarpet.
