This ALDI shopper ‘lost it’ after discovering a mistake in one of her buys

We know grocery shopping can be a bit of a chore sometimes. But hey, at least when we buy something, we can expect to get what we paid for, right?

Unfortunately, that’s not always the case – as one ALDI shopper recently found out.

One mum shared her story on a well-known Facebook group about the ‘hilarious’ mistake the supermarket giant made with a packet of party-sized meat pies.

The shopper revealed she ‘had a laugh’ after taking a bite out of the pastry – and realised something very important was missing.

The mum posted two photos of the pie: one where it looks normal, and the other revealing that the pastry was almost empty. Instead of having mince and gravy filling like it should have had, there seems to be only a tiny dollop of gravy with barely anything else inside.

She captioned her post with a quip: ‘How rude, ALDI. Just rude. I wanted a meat party pie, not a party pastry!’

However, her caption had been misinterpreted by many as her complaining about the product, so they started to defend ALDI. The mum quickly explained she wasn’t actually upset by the ‘error’.

She said: ‘I don’t actually care. Nor am I actually blaming ALDI…thought I’d post for a joke. A good laugh.’

The mum added that she wasn’t going to go out of her way to take it back to the supermarket and ‘whine’ that out of a hundred party pies, one happened to skip the meat slop.

‘It’s not like I found a worm or a roach or something gross and legitimately made a serious post,’ she wrote.

Many shoppers found her post entertaining, with some saying they preferred eating the pastry to the filling.

‘I always scrape the mince out so this is my dream pie,’ one admitted. ‘I throw it in the bin and eat the soggy gravy pastry,’ they added.

Another replied: ‘Me too! Hahaha there’s clearly a market for empty pies.’

‘I showed my 15-year-old, he got the same one yesterday. He just filled his with tomato sauce and ate it,’ commented someone else.

In 2020, a similar incident happened when another shopper opened a pack of Elmsbury Classic Meat Pies from her local ALDI – but was also shocked to see one pie had no filling inside. Shoppers were assured though, that this was an isolated case.

Other shoppers shared similar ALDI mishaps – but their experiences were less amusing.

‘I just opened two packets of glacé cherries to do some Christmas cooking, use by 07/23. Putrid inside and yellow chunky gel around the cherries. Smelt soooo bad,’ revealed one mum.

Another wrote: ‘We have two empty teddy biscuit packages in the multi-pack this week. Not worth the effort to return, but annoying.’

I worked at Arnotts as a teenager and we always had someone sitting by an X-ray machine checking for quality control issues. An alarm would go off if the machine detected foreign materials We had to ensure the packets were properly sealed and they were full as we packed by hand as they came along the conveyor belt from the oven. In the oven room, we had to remove the disfigured tiny teddies, any wastage as such would be sent to the piggeries for food. I don’t even know if that’s allowed these days!
But even though those measures were in place, some still slipped through unnoticed. It’s why I don’t complain when I see something like that. But if the food was still in its use by date and had gone bad I would contact the company so they were aware of the issue.

If it was one or two I would move on , mishaps happen, if it was half the packet or more I would contact the actual company to let them know about the problem.

I buy a certain orange juice and at one time every time I purchase it the juice tasted off. This happened over a couple of weeks.

I contacted the company and she asked for info off the bottle and had said another person had also called saying the same thing

She said she really appreciated my feedback , if people don't tell her then she can't fix it.

She sent me out a $20 coles gift card.

Then emailed me a few weeks later saying she found out at one stage they had used a different orange but have since gone back to the original orange.

So if you have a problem with a food or drink item then it's good to let the company know

Some folk are never happy! This is obviously done by the company so that you can get your favourite pie! They supply the pastry case and lid and you add any filling you desire. Rather innovative I thought, all manufacturers will be jumping on this particular bandwagon any day now!! :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:

I recently had a problem with Weet Bix, half way down the box the biscuits were almost half size. I took a photo of the biscuits and sent it to Sanitarium because they need to know about these things so they can check there machines or whatever else may be causing the problem.

This is the problem with 'social' media. Once upon a time, if people had an issue with a product, they either dismissed it as a one-off error not worth bothering about or they contacted the company for redress. They might or might not have told friends or family about it. Now, social media is the first place they go, and many do so just to stir up controversy.
