This ALDI dishwasher tablet beat every other expensive brand: 'Premium clean without the premium price tag'

At the Seniors Discount Club, we love busting myths, particularly those around the concept that pricier is always better. There's a certain charm in finding a much cheaper product that unabashedly snatches the crown from its far more costly counterparts. Especially when it comes to long-standing battles such as the age-old question: which is truly the superior dishwasher detergent or tablet?
Well, we recently stumbled upon an extensive review conducted by CHOICE featuring 40 different dishwasher detergents, and we must say, we were pleasantly surprised by the results.
Admittedly, dishwasher detergents might not be the most exciting topic, but it’s a daily necessity and can have a considerable impact on your budget. After all, who wants to pay through the nose for something that's just going to get flushed down the drain?
As the test results were revealed, the unsuspecting victor was none other than ALDI's Logix Platinum 18 in 1 Dishwashing Tablets Lemon Fragrance. Believe it or not, these affordable tablets are not only a top performer but are also easy on your budget. At just 19 cents per wash, they outshone products that cost almost ten times as much!
These ALDI tablets have secured the top spot for the second year consecutively, showing they're not just a one-hit-wonder. According to CHOICE, they deliver a knockout punch to dried-on food stains, including some of the hardest stains to get out, like egg yolk, baked-on cheese, and minced meat.
As Matt Steen, CHOICE Head of Reviews and Testing, puts it, 'This goes to show that if you shop smart, you can get a great clean while saving money.'
Nothing pleases us more at SDC than the news of a cheaper product coming out on top, and in this case, the premium brands were left eating the, well, crumbs.
Let’s have a closer look at some of the other results:
Finishing in a tie for second place were Finish Powerball Ultimate Pro All in 1 Tabs Lemon Sparkle and Ultimate Plus All in 1 Lemon Sparkle. However, it's their price tags that leave a sour taste, with individual washes costing as much as $1.87. That's almost 10 times the price of ALDI's budget-friendly Logix Platinum tablets. Even a quick mental calculation makes it apparent that savvy shoppers are better off sticking with ALDI.
Who knew there could be so much drama over a simple thing as a dishwasher tablet?
Now, as much as we love the triumphant tale of the underdog, there's always a flip side. This time around, the flip side goes by the name Lucent Globe Ultra Concentrated Dishwashing Detergent Sheets, which retails for $29.99, roughly $0.36 per wash (not including shipping). According to CHOICE, these sheets were not exactly a shining paragon of cleanliness. Allegedly being equally effective as plain water, it seems they will need to undergo significant improvement before getting a thumbs-up from experts.
It would also be remiss of us if we didn't make mention of Finish Powerball Ultimate Plus Material Care, coming in at $1.16 per wash with a CHOICE Expert Rating of 76 per cent. If ALDI isn't your local, this is apparently your next best cheapest option as it took out third place.
It’s certainly worth noting that CHOICE found that powders, gels and sheets are generally less effective than tablets, but that the following products are definitely at ‘the bottom of the pile’ – and shockingly enough, Woolworths and Coles’ own-brand products both get a feature in the ‘bottom of the pile’:
These were the worst performers in CHOICE’s test, along with their CHOICE Expert Ratings:
Happy dishwashing, folks!
Remember, every cent saved on detergent is a cent that could be used on something far more enjoyable. Will you be giving ALDI’s dishwashing tablet a try? Or do you have any recommendations of your own? Let us know in the comments below!
