This $724 Woolworths grocery haul sparked outrage–but why?

Em Lucin shared a video of her incredibly long receipt that revealed a whole range of spreads, sweets, snacks, and pantry staples. She even showed off several kitchen essentials, including frying pans and utensils, a large bottle of Italian sparkling water, a large pack of Finish dishwashing tablets–that typically retails for $54–and some FemFresh intimate wash.

You can find her video below:

Lucin explained the reason for the haul, saying, 'We just moved houses, and if you are moving too, just be aware that this s*** is expensive.'

Her post was met with outrage from social media users who were left shocked by the amount spent. Many accused her of flaunting her wealth, with one user writing:

‘Imagine having such a disposable income that you can spend $730 like it’s nothing. That’s so much, right now I’m living pay cheque to pay cheque.’

Other users pointed out how Lucin mainly bought expensive, brand-name items rather than cheaper alternatives.

‘Groceries are definitely expensive but a huge part of your problem here is buying everything branded,’ one user said.

‘You could have saved at least $100 if you went store brand over name brand,’ another user added.

Some users defended the shopper by claiming people should be allowed to spend money as they see fit. ‘Why is everyone always judging about the amount spent? Why do people always judge?’ one wrote.

‘She knew she could afford it, otherwise she wouldn’t have done it,’ the same user added.

Moving Expenses and How to Minimise Them

Packing up and relocating to a new home can be a financial burden. Charged with a whirlwind of service fees–such as removalist fees, cleaning fees, and connecting utilities fees–moving has never been easy on the pocket. If you have plans to move soon (maybe closer to your grandkids?), here are some dollar-saving tips for you!

To start, declutter your things before you move. Lightening your load can make a significant difference. There may be things you have not used in a decade, know when to let them go.

Next is to hire professionals but be smart about it. Compare quotes and ask for discounts. Or, ask help from family or willing neighbours and save some serious bucks.

Now when it comes to restocking your pantry, don’t feel like you have to do it all in one go. It’s okay to start slow. Even your grocery shopping could be a phased process. Maximise usage of discount coupons and bulk deals on raw goods with longer shelf-life, such as rice and lentils. You can find other tips for budget-friendly grocery shopping here!

While the total expenses might still give you heartache, with a bit of planning and elbow grease, you can significantly cut corners to make shopping a less daunting financial challenge.

Key Takeaways
  • A Woolworths shopper spent an enormous $724 on a grocery haul after a recent house move.
  • The shopper faced criticism from many social media users who felt she was flaunting her high disposable income.
  • Critics suggested she could have saved substantial money by purchasing non-branded items.
  • However, others defended her right to spend her money as she wished, arguing she wouldn't have spent such an amount if she couldn't afford to do so.

Why would you think seniors would be interested in what a young woman spends. We are not mindless morons. We deserve to be treated with respect for our intellect, not spoon fed with rubbish so called news/ journalism. Also stop using so many adjectives to describe ordinary shopping buys. Using superlatives doesn’t make it any better. I require a higher standard if I’m to continue to read so called news for seniors not some withering rubbish unfit for kindergarten children. Pick up your act.

Exactly.

I'd appreciate news that will save me effort, time and/or money.

I'd ask SDC to publish articles that fit within this criteria.

All I see is "some dumb insecure little twit."
She got her 15 seconds of fame holding a supermarket shopping receipt.

Look at Me Look at Me! REALLY!!!
You belong in the IDIOT FILES.

I don't care what she does or what she spends, but why the hell does she have to share this with the world? Even more concerning....why do people watch this rubbish and feed it? Nobodies doing nothing and getting paid by sponsors for it? Seriously!

There are too many dumb, entitled nobodies getting paid for doing nothing, whilst talented, hardworking people struggle....and it's all the fault of mindless people who follow these "influencers" and give them a platform. Without social media, they would have no "fame" and have to work for their money, like everyone else.

Oh yes, stocking a new home is very expensive, because you basically need everything. I gather that she didn't move locally, otherwise she would have brought a lot of household goods with her......or was she too lazy?

She loves the expensive brands, which cost a lot more. All funded by "influencer" sponsors, thanks to her followers. Living the dream, paid for by others.
AH!! Those 15 minuets of fame!!!
