These vintage baby names are shockingly making a comeback

It seems that many ‘old-fashioned’ baby names are making a comeback this year!

Although it’s a bit ironic that in today’s modern era – where everything is digitised and commercialised – more families are turning to old-fashioned names to give their little bundle of joys.

And a baby-naming consultant revealed the top vintage baby names that will skyrocket to popularity this 2023 – can you find your name on the list?

If you know someone who is on the hunt for that ‘perfect’ baby name, ask them if they’ve ever thought about delving into the family archives for inspiration.

According to Michelle, a baby-naming consultant, ‘old’ or ‘vintage’ baby names are perceived as ‘beautiful, elegant and timeless’.

‘A gentle reminder to look back through your family history, you may just find a name from generations ago that fits so perfectly within your little family today!’ She captioned.

Michelle, who conducts her consultancy business on Instagram, included names such as Posey, Clara and Adeline as some of the most popular baby names for girls.

For boys, expect names such as Milton, Silas, Archibald, or Walter to soar in popularity.

‘They are new again, and I’m loving them!’ Michelle stated.

People with ‘old-fashioned’ names took to the comments to share their thoughts on Michelle’s predictions.

‘I’m an Esther! Very rare nowadays but I appreciate the thought my parents put into it,’ shared one.

Another commented: ‘I’m Aurelia. So proud to have this name. It’s so special and beautiful.’ They added that they’d never met someone with the same name before.

A new parent chimed in and said that her new baby is named after her great-grandmother, Dorothy.

Meanwhile, other social media users were not impressed by the names.

‘I’m sorry…but Archibald?’ Wrote one.

A second added: ‘If my parents had named me Esther or Edith, I would have literally marched my way down to city hall and had it changed as soon as I was able to walk.’ We find this one a bit rude!

  • Aurelia
  • Posey

A grandparent's name can be a meaningful tribute to the family or even a nod to a much-loved family member. But the influence of grandparents' names on baby-naming goes far beyond traditional old-fashioned names like Evelyn or Henry.

Instead, they look for modern variations of the vintage names in their family, like Evie as an alternative to Evelyn.

For most new parents, naming a baby is a major milestone – so, it's only natural to explore the family line for inspiration. This is a big reason why vintage baby names are becoming popular once more, and let’s be honest, ‘old-fashioned’ names are better. 😉

My Father, Myself and our Son share the same middle name - "Harvey", when my Grandson was born I was surprised (and very happy) that my Son & Daughter-in-law continued what has become a bit of a family tradition with the firstborn son receiving "Harvey" as a middle name. I really like the family link that this is creating!
"Esther" is the middle name of my wife, which is a name used in her family.
I think it's great to see some of the older traditional types of names being selected these days and as noted above - it's a great way to pay tribute to loved family members.

Most of these names are truly awful. I hate that some older names are making a come-back. Not that I like some of the new, made-up, tizzy names either. Still, naming child is a subjective decision, and babies somehow seem to grow into their names.

Most of these names to me are awful .

There are some old names I love

Sophie .... which I named one of my daughters

Georgina ... which I named another daughter and was my great grandmothers name.

I love the name WILLIAM which was my grandfathers name plus 8 generations of males back.

I m surprised Emma never made that list or Rebecca and for males MATTHEW or ROBERT

Anne, as a middle name is fairly common in our family. There are some lovely old names out there but what I don't understand is why they have to change the spelling. I have seen some very unusual spellings applied to names.

My name was given to me by my mum who was reading Edgar Wallace's book' The Wringer'. While pregnant with me it is Cora the name of the baddie in the book. As I have only met 8 Coras in my life I am especially pleased to have such an unusual name. Mum was the second born in her family & was given the name Dorothy instead of a Jewish name that all the family had had previously. My granddaughter is called Artemis & her sister was India.

My middle name is Anne, named by my Mum after her favourite aunt, Auntie Annie.
My sister's middle name is Joy, who Mum named because she was so joyful at having a little girl 4 years after her son.
My sister gave her daughter the middle name of Joy, and she has now given her daughter the middle name of Joy. I wonder if a new tradition has been started?
