These SIMPLE fashion tips will make your shopping journey way easier

We all love going on a good shopping spree every now and then. There's nothing quite like treating yourself to a new outfit (or two), is there?

But as any seasoned shopper knows, finding the right clothes can sometimes be a real challenge – especially if you're looking for key pieces that will last you more than just one season.

From sizing issues to overwhelming choice, there are plenty of factors that can stress us out and ruin what should be a fun day out.

But fret not, for Tamara Holland and Deni Todorovic of Mamamia’s fashion podcast What Are You Wearing? have given simple, easy-to-follow sage advice on what to consider while going shopping for clothes!

Without further ado…

1. Think about longevity
If you’re looking at the kinds of clothes you want to have long-term, the duo have but two words to say: ditch trends.
It’s easy to get swayed by what’s hot and popping (especially among the youth), but Tamara and Deni say the first thing to ask is if you will get the most wear out of them.
‘If you're shopping for foundation pieces, figuring out whether or not you can wear said piece with say three to five things in your existing wardrobe, that's my formula,’ Deni said.
‘If the answer is no, you likely won't get the mileage out of that piece that you deserve.’

2. Know your shopping personality

Everyone has their own quirks while shopping. Some need to have a sounding board in the form of a friend or a companion to ask for opinions on their purchases. There are also those who thrive while shopping alone.
Deni said shoppers should take care to know their shopper personas to make the most of their retail experience.
The advice does make sense, because when you think about it, most of us probably have had a bad purchase that wasn’t really well thought out and could have been avoided with our shopping personalities in mind.

3. Watch out for sales

We’ve yet to meet a person who could 100% resist a bargain (you are on the SDC, after all!), so this one is perhaps advice most everyone could benefit from.
‘Know what you want before the sale goes live,’ Tamara recommended.
‘Obviously not all the styles you want are going to be on sale but if you have an idea, you can snap it up first.’
In addition, it also helps save those precious few seconds where other shoppers can nab an item away.
Tamara also advised shoppers, especially in the cases of luxury stores, to sign up for wish lists as it gives more insight on what products are available.

4. Ignore the size

Maybe you have a piece of clothing on hand but to your horror, you are no longer the size you thought you were. No big deal!
‘Ignore the size and choose what fits right,’ Deni said, recommending ‘wear what feels right’ with options like denim or dresses.
Elle Ferguson said whenever she shops denim, she literally couldn't care less what the size is and will go into the change room with anything from a size 10-16.’

Key Takeaways

  • Fashion podcast hosts Tamara Holland and Deni Todorovic gave out simple and easy-to-follow advice for shopping clothes
  • The pair encouraged shoppers to think long-term, know their shopping personalities, and watch out for sales
  • They also said to not be conscious of clothes sizes, be more open to shopping at different stores, and to know their personal styles
5. Be open-minded

Are you the type to only want clothing from one specific store?
Tamara said shoppers should be more open as to where they source their clothes: ‘Don't be limited by where you shop - I've found pieces in the most surprising locations.'
She admitted to scouring the shelves of stores that target a younger market. Once she sees an item she wants, she will buy it — regardless of who it's marketed for.

6. Know your style

This advice from Tamara and Deni is as classic as fashion tips go, and no less important.
Deni in particular told shoppers to always consider themselves in their purchase — what outfits describe them best? And after, what do those outfits look like in terms of aesthetics?
If you’re feeling a bit adventurous, you can also take Deni’s advice further by figuring out the colours and contours of clothing best suited for you to make choosing a bit easier.

It would be so nice to have some people between 60-80, with different body shapes and sizes, to give suggestions to us seniores.
We only see here 30-50 years old people, slim, and a certain nice height.
They are not seniors 🤨🤨

I'm actually really good with fashion and what suits what body shape.

I couldn't tell you the number of brides who came to me wanting a particular style only to see it wasn't the right shape. I would then say ...OK let me put you into something I think will work magic . Then I would hear ' oh I feel beautiful " " oh It makes me look smaller.

yes comfort is important but so many woman dress so wrong

Larger women shouldn't dress in baggy clothes , it only makes you look bigger..

Be proud of your curves

Short women do not wear Maxi dresses unless wearing heals.

I can go on and on

Also to save money mix n match select a solid colour for both pants and skirts and then you can basically add any tops
Black, beige and white pants work on everyone

Thank you very much for sharing some tips about choosing clothes. I also think it is necessary to write the same article about the classic men's style about selecting the right suit, which brands should pay attention to, which ties should be combined with your suit, and so on. It is also worth sharing some more shops where a gentleman can buy these things. Regarding the store, I usually purchase ties on this site -- https://www.gentlemansguru.com/product-category/accessories/mens-neckties/, because it has proven itself perfectly, and all my ties are always of excellent quality and look simply unreal.
