Who doesn’t love a good swig of wine, especially after one of those days?
What if we said we have a suggestion for wine that hard to find is budget-friendly AND award-winning?
Look no further these wines available at ALDI won awards, and at the prestigious Melbourne International Wine Competition (MIWC) to boot!
The discount grocery chain’s South Point Estate Pinot Grigio 2022 and South Point Estate Sparkling Chardonnay Pinot Noir won Double Golds for the White Wines and Sparkling Wines (Charmat) categories, respectively.
ALDI’s website describes South Point Estate Pinot Grigio 2022 as the ‘perfect lunchtime wine’, with ‘soft citrus and pear fruits and a delicate mouthfeel’. They also list the white wine as having won silver and bronze medals in previous MIWC editions.
Meanwhile, South Point Estate Chardonnay Pinot Noir, a sparkling wine ‘fresh and full of flavour’, also won Double Gold last year, according to its ALDI profile.
The competition, which is in its ninth year, featured more than a thousand wines across the globe and spanned more than 50 categories.
ALDI Australia Wine Buying Director Jason Bowyer said ‘We’re so proud to see our range of award-winning wines being recognised once again among the highest quality drops available in Australia.’
Award-winning? Check. But how about the price?
Fret not, because these quality wines cost less than $6!
South Point Estate Pinot Grigio only costs $4.99, while South Point Estate Sparkling Chardonnay Pinot Noir costs $5.99.
For context, the average price of Australian wine back in 2016 was $21.59 for a 750ml bottle, factoring in the cost of local and foreign imported wines.
Aside from the two budget-friendly Double Gold winners, other wines available at ALDI to clinch Gold awards — and cost less than $7 — including the $4.69 South Point Estate Moscato 2022 for the White Wine category and the $6.99 The Pond Cabernet Sauvignon for the Red Wine category.
The white wine is described as ‘refreshing and full flavoured with a light spritz on the finish’, while the red wine is said to have a ‘very good richness, structure and depth’.
