The top 10 most handsome men is released—is your favourite heartthrob on the list?

The quest to quantify beauty has been an age-old endeavour, and in recent times, science has attempted to bring a measure of objectivity to this subjective domain.

The latest study to capture public attention has applied ancient mathematical principles to modern-day celebrities, resulting in a list that might just include your favourite silver-screen star.

Dr Julian De Silva, a renowned facial cosmetic surgeon from London, has brought the Greek Golden Ratio of Beauty Phi into the 21st century, using it to rank the most handsome men in the world.

This ratio, which is approximately 1.618, has been heralded since antiquity as the hallmark of aesthetic perfection. It has influenced artists like Leonardo Da Vinci and now, it seems, the casting choices of Hollywood.

Topping the list with a near-perfect score of 93.04 per cent is Aaron Taylor-Johnson, known for his roles in Kick-Ass and Avengers: Age of Ultron.

‘Aaron was the clear winner when all elements of the face were measured for physical perfection,’ Dr De Silva said.

'His 93.04 per cent score would easily make him the most handsome James Bond in the history if he does land the role as expected.’

'He is well ahead of all the James Bond actors—Sean Connery, in second place with 89.2 per cent, with Roger Moore in third on 88.8 per cent and Daniel Craig in last place—behind George Lazenby - on 84.2 per cent.'

But Taylor-Johnson isn't the only one who has been scientifically endorsed for his looks.

The study included a diverse array of celebrities, each with their unique appeal. Lucien Laviscount, the charming star from Emily in Paris, secured second place with a score of 92.41 per cent, praised for his facial dimensions and well-shaped lips.

'[Lucien Laviscount] had the highest score for the length and width of his face at 99.1 per cent,' Dr De Silva said.

'He was also top scorer for his beautifully shaped lips at 97.4 per cent. He was marked down for the gap between his nose and his upper lip.'

The third spot was claimed by Paul Mescal of Normal People fame, with a score of 92.38 per cent, followed closely by Twilight heartthrob Robert Pattinson and Jack Lowden.

These younger stars were joined by seasoned actors who have long been considered symbols of masculine appeal.

George Clooney, for instance, despite being the oldest on the list at 63, still made a remarkable entry at sixth place with a score of 89.9 per cent.

'George Clooney is easily the oldest star on the list, but he remains a stunningly attractive man with classical features in great proportion,' Dr De Silva said.

'There has been a loss of volume in his face and, inevitably, some sagging around the eyes.’

'To still make the top ten at 63 is remarkable and is a testament to his incredible natural good looks.'

The list also celebrated international stars, with Bollywood's king, Shah Rukh Khan, rounding out the top 10.

At 58, Khan's enduring good looks and charismatic presence continue to captivate audiences worldwide, earning him a score of 86.76 per cent.

‘The king of Bollywood has been one of India's biggest stars for the last three decades,’ Dr De Silva said.

'He is still striking looking at 58 and is ageing wonderfully. He scored very highly for his lips and wonderfully square chin but missed out on a higher position due to the shape of his nose.'

Dr De Silva hoped that the findings would help discover the mystery of physical beauty.

'These brand new computer mapping techniques allow us to solve some of the mysteries of what it is that makes someone physically beautiful, and the technology is useful when planning patients' surgery,' he added.
Key Takeaways

  • Aaron Taylor-Johnson has been named the most handsome man in the world according to the Greek Golden Ratio of Beauty, as analysed by Dr Julian De Silva.
  • The Golden Ratio is a mathematical equation used to measure beauty, and Taylor-Johnson's features scored an almost perfect 93.04 per cent.
  • Other top contenders included Lucien Laviscount, Paul Mescal, Robert Pattinson, Jack Lowden, and George Clooney, who all feature in the top ten list based on their Golden Ratio scores.
  • The study by Dr De Silva, who is a facial cosmetic surgeon, aims to provide insights into the science of physical beauty and is also used in planning cosmetic surgery procedures.

Dont care about a mathmatic ratio, Beauty has always been in the eye of the beholder after saying that George Clooney who rightfully appears on the above list is still one of the most handsome men ever and only gets better as he ages, like the rest of us;);)

Of course we do ... all my wrinkes have gone, when I use a mirror with no specs on!

Try this man - hard worker on the NSW Railway system since 1974 (aged 16). has never used anything but soap & water on his face. All I can say is George Clooney and the rest, "eat your heart out" as there are many men out there that can achive the "Sexy as Hell" look without professional help.

And I'm one very lucky lady to be able to say he made me his wife.0128.jpg

what a load of shite. beauty is only skin deep. the only one i have heard of is clooney. his aunty was a very good singer. that means more to me. AND one persons opinion. REALLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I remember reading an article some time ago about the symmetry of facial features having an effect on how one may perceive them attractive.
For some reason, according to research, humans look more favourably upon faces that are symmetrical. Only 2% of the population falls into that category. A couple of examples are Shania Twain, and, the late great Elizabeth Taylor.
Also, it seems oval faces are more appealing to the masses than those with angular features. Good example there would be the lovely Elle MacPherson.
For me, personally, the eyes have it. There are many people out there who are not only kindly souls, but also, have eyes that draw you to them. I cannot get past Audrey Hepburn and again, Liz Taylor in that regard.
No matter what, there is something that will draw you toward one kind of person, and away from another.
Viva La Difference.
