The Rolling Stones are back! Here's what you need to know about their first new original album in over 15 years
It has been over 15 years since the Rolling Stones released a full album of original songs, and now the band is back with a brand new one.
The remaining members–now in their 70s and 80s–Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, and Ronnie Wood teased their new music online and in a cryptic advert in a London newspaper, the Hackney Gazette.
This Wednesday, American TV host Jimmy Fallon will pique fans' interest as he will interview the rockstars about the new material.
Interestingly, their upcoming album will also feature a special collaboration with none other than Paul McCartney.
The song will include the Beatles legend playing bass, as well as vocals and drum tracks recorded earlier with long-time drummer Charlie Watts before his death in 2021.
The Stones have intrigued fans in promoting the new album, which will be called Hackney Diamonds. The ad they've placed in the Hackney Gazette, features a website and a phone number.
When called, an automated message will say, 'Welcome to Hackney Diamonds, specialists in glass repair. Don’t get angry, get it fixed. Opening early September. Mare Street, E8. Register for a call at hackneydiamonds.com. Come on then!'
Now you may be wondering what that phrase even means, so here's the explanation: it's an old east London slang for broken glass, which refers to what remains after a robbery.
The band will, fortunately, forgo smashing glass and instead be sharing the album to the world via their official YouTube channel.
You can watch the interview with Jimmy Fallon here:
Note: The live conversation will happen on September 6th, 11:30 PM AEST. As of writing, the interview has not happened yet.
The announcement was met with enthusiasm from rock and roll fans. One wrote on social media: ‘WOOO HOOO! Can't wait!’ while another remarked, ‘Exciting!’
‘Oh my God, it's happening!’ a third user exclaimed.
‘I can't wait to listen to the album! ROCK'N ROLL IS NOT DEAD!’ another fan expressed.
The Rolling Stones established a career of global success in the early 1960's, and since then they have had eight number one singles in the UK, such as ‘(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction’, ‘Paint It Black’, and ‘Honky Tonk Women’.
Earlier this month bronze statues of Jagger and Richards were unveiled in their hometown of Dartford, Kent, to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the band.
What a wonderful treat it is to have the Rolling Stones again with new music! We cannot wait to hear their new tunes, and we wish them all the best with this release.
