I read somewhere that it has something to do with a persons scent, when it fades to a certain point the doggies know that the person is due back.

Cos they are Watch....... Dogs! Same as they know, what time it is to be fed.

When we lived in Coolangatta after moving from Tweed Heads we had our son still going to school in NSW but our daughter changed and went to the new Coolangatta school which was just around the corner. Our German Shepherd,dog, Tyro, used to wait at the corner of the street for the children to come home from school. As the times changed for summer time we always wondered how Tyro knew this and adjusted his times to still meet the kids but at different times.
