The creative way one Aussie won 72 FREE plane tickets

Are you someone who loves to travel but always finds the cost of flights to be a major hindrance? If so, you're not alone.

The thought of winning free flight tickets may sound too good to be true, but it's many people’s dream. After all, who wouldn't want to jet off to an exotic location without having to spend big on airfares?

While it may seem too good to be true, obtaining free flights IS possible. Take, for instance, the case of Kylie Servante, a 37-year-old mother from Perth.

Kylie was recently crowned the winner of Jetstar’s ‘Golden Ticket Togs’ competition, where she scored herself a whopping 72 free domestic and international return flights, with the grand prize including 24 domestic return flights and 12 international return flights.

But the feat was not easy. In order for her to be considered for the prize, Kylie had to track down a man wearing glittery gold swimwear, which was sometimes an actual person and other times just a billboard.

She then had to take the ‘most creative selfie’ with him, which required careful planning and shopping.

The mum-of-two recounted how she visited seven thrift stores in search of a golden outfit upon learning that Jetstar's ‘man in gold’ uniform had been sighted approximately an hour away from her home.

'I bought a gold dress that didn’t fit in any way, shape or form,' Kylie said.

After finding the perfect dress to match the golden theme, Kylie then bought a gold Kmart table runner to use as a makeshift carpet.

Upon arriving at the billboard located on Cottesloe beach, Ms Servante had to seek help from strangers to take her photo since she did not have any friends present.

She chuckled as she recounted the experience: ‘I didn’t have any friends, so I had to get some random people to take the photo.’

The most challenging aspect was yet to come for Ms Servante, despite all her previous efforts.

After being named a finalist, she faced the daunting task of obtaining sufficient public support to secure victory.

Remarkably, she admitted to not even being familiar with the concept of a hashtag before entering the competition.

She shared: ‘I campaigned through Facebook and Instagram, through all my friends … I went down to the local skate park [and said] “Make me go viral” to the teenagers – and it worked!’

Her creative approach to the selfie paid off, and her ‘micro-campaigning’ on social media saw the 38-year-old score enough public support to bag the grand prize.

Kylie will now enjoy trips with her family sans spending a cent on flights.

'We were supposed to go to Thailand just as COVID hit, so the kids are very excited,' she said.

So many comps are scams these days so i dont trust any of them any more, but a decade or so ago before all the scams I've won a couple of good comps. The best being in 2004, a $3000 prize of 3 day wkend for 4 people at Gt Keppel Island with Midouri & everything thrown in - even met the adorable Sophie Monk & hung out with her @ Salt Nightclub, it was a magical wkend!
Have also won FlightCentre voucher ($1000) which helped me get to Broome (& a 21 day tour of The Kimberley Tour, which i paid $3000 for). Bring back the days of safe comps, they were so much fun :)

At Christmas my daughter was selling raffle tickets for a trailer. I really wanted one so I bought 5 tickets never thinking I would win. 31st of January I received a phone call to say I won an $8500 trailer with canopy and toolbox. I was thrilled. I have never won a raffle before.

Don't know if this counts but back in the late 70s I was working for a large company who were a major customer of Qantas. Qantas were making their maiden flight to Tahiti and they offered us a single return ticket to Tahiti with this first flight. No one senior to me was available on the day of the trip so I was advised that I should take the trip which all expenses paid including 2 weeks of full accommodation at the Captain Cook resort in Morea. Off I went on this fantastic trip which was just incredible from the moment I arrived at Sydney airport to the time I got back. There were a couple of minor issues with the ticketing, especially on the return leg. I ended up in the cockpit for takeoff and landing which was just breathtaking in a 747. A couple of days after this astounding holiday I got a call from Qantas PR who profusely apologized for the issues which I had actually enjoyed. They said that to make up for their errors they would send me 2 tickets to Fiji, all expenses paid. I think that was a huge win.
