The Cost of MRIs

Hi All,

I recently needed a cervical spine MRI. Knowing the medical industry I decided to shop around rather than use the company my GP referred me to. Was it a referral or did he just have the pad of forms on his desk? The costs difference might surprise you.

PRP Gordon NSW wanted $320 and no Medicare rebate.
The SAN wanted $492 but a ~$320 Medicare rebate
I-Med Hornsby would bulk bill. Zero cost.

The GP insisted that the company had the best machine and technician. I researched the machine at I-Med and it was top class. The report was thorough and comprehensive. My neurologist had no difficulty with the quality of imaging or report.

it pays to shop around For the imaging service, and dare I say it, a GP!

I know doctors get little perks and freebies from referring patients to certain medical places and also down to writing scripts using particular drug companies

Funny you saying about quality of MRI , I had two which were for the same thing but at 2 different places both they needed to put a Dye in. The first one didn't pick up what the 2nd one did. The first one I paid I think $260 out of pocket the 2nd one was free

THE 2ND ONE SHOWED HERNIA MESH STUCK TO MY BOWEL
