The Block host storms off set over his pet peeve: ‘He hates it’

It's no secret that reality TV can be as much of a rollercoaster for the hosts as it is for the contestants. The high-pressure environment, the tight schedules, and the need for engaging content can sometimes lead to tensions boiling over.

This seems to be the case with Scotty Cam, the charismatic host of the popular Australian renovation show, The Block.

Known for his affable nature and quick wit, Scotty has become a household name, but it appears that even he has his limits.

According to a source close to the production, Scotty Cam has a particular pet peeve that can drive him to the edge—and it's something that might surprise the average viewer.

The source reveals that Scotty has a strong aversion to contestants who are, for lack of a better term, dull on camera. 'He hates the boring participants that take too long to shoot their on-camera moments,' they disclosed.

‘He often walks off in a huff and gives the producers the side eye if the contestant struggles to answer his questions. It’s obvious when you know Scotty well.’

‘Anyone that takes too long to deliver the basics has Scotty avoiding them like the plague. He makes his mind up pretty quickly, too, and it’s often hard to come back from,’ they added.

The insider explained that Scotty's impatience is not without reason.

‘It’s obvious the contestants he struggles with the most are always the people who don’t take to the TV side of the job. The ones who struggle with being natural or, for lack of a better word, interesting,’ they said.

‘Scotty often is self-producing, and after more than a decade of shooting The Block, he knows what is required. He will always stay until the job is done but avoids any of those extra little storylines.’

Interestingly, the source also notes that while Scotty isn't supposed to have favourites, it's almost inevitable in reality TV.

The contestants who tend to win his favour are those who are quick to engage, have larger-than-life personalities, and can wrap up their segments efficiently. These contestants often become fan favourites as well, which only adds to their appeal to the host.

‘Scotty doesn’t mind a gossip, and he doesn’t mind the rule breakers,’ the insider said.

‘He will even turn a blind eye to their renovation abilities. If you want to know what Scotty looks like when he is actually having a good time, ask him about boats or fishing. He comes alive.’

In a previous story, a reality TV show contestant was under fire for killing and eating a protected species.

The incident raised concerns about endangered species being protected and the ethics of reality TV. You can read more about the story here.

I had a verbal stouch with this jerk while watching the NRL State of Origin at the Stamford Hotel, Rowville, Melbourne in 2015.

After he made a ridiculous comment about a referee's decision, I asked him if he had played the game. A sheepish "No" was the reply. He then carried on like a pork chop about how superior AFL was as a game.

An argument he had no chance of winning!! 🤣
AFL? Bloody Johnny come lately with their aerial pingpong.
