Fines are the least of your problems! Just wait how much it will cost if someone sues you as insurance is not covered on footpath. They could be off work for weeks, incapacitated or need surgery.
 
That's why you should go hybrid that charges itself.
We have no problem with the concept of EV, except, they are plugged into the mains that may still be coal sourced to charge, you need to be sure you will be able to charge if going a distance and if you don't have a safe charge spot at home, you have no right to be fully electric.
The products are being main streamed before infrastructure is in place.
I am waiting for Hydrogen power, or an EV with its roof made of solar chargers. I'm hoping my grandchildren will see this because I won't be around.

As I've been saying since this EV obsession began, plug-in systems are an obtrusive hopeless, expensive, concept. If we must have EVs, let them be only hybrids with on-board ICE engine chargers.
 
I would have thought there would be charging stations all around Melbourne for EV vehicles.
Electric vehicles are in such low demand, it is not worth it for councils to install them. The only ones who seem to be getting them are businesses, not private buyers.

Yes, Councils don't install them where I live either. Don't live in Victoria, but Tesla, Genesis and other models are around, plus Tesla has charging stations locally around for people. Also, I know of people who pay for their own charging stations at their home or their apartment basement parking space. Otherwise, I believe it takes around 36hrs to charge in a power point.
 
A bit of a side issue but I was reading excerpts from a book by a Romanian professor of geophysics where he compared the cost per kilogram of raw materials for the power sources of EV engines versus ICE engines. The difference was more than an eye opener and a jaw dropper combined! Lithium/cobalt mining versus oil extraction. Mining costs something in the magnitude of 1000 times more than oil extraction in terms of energy required! Professor Constanza or something but his book, a mere 486 page paperback, costs in the vicinity of AUD 100.

I'll just have to dig out the article and quote exact figures.
