The tranquillity of a routine afternoon was shattered in Sydney's southwest last week when a teenage driver's alleged reckless actions led to a catastrophic event that has left a community reeling and two families forever changed.

The incident, which occurred on Old Glenfield Rd in Glenfield, has sparked a conversation about road safety and the responsibilities that come with being behind the wheel.

At approximately 5 pm last Tuesday, 12 November, emergency services rushed to the scene following reports of a collision.

Terrifying footage emerged, showing the 18-year-old driver purportedly ignoring a red light and ploughing into a 72-year-old grandmother and her four-year-old granddaughter as they were about to cross the road.

The impact was so severe that the young girl was reportedly hurled into a nearby tree, while her grandmother sustained life-threatening injuries.

The elderly woman received immediate attention from NSW Ambulance paramedics before being transported to Westmead Hospital in critical condition.

The granddaughter, though in a stable state, was also taken to The Children's Hospital at Westmead for treatment.

The male driver of the red sedan involved in the incident was taken to Liverpool Hospital.

After a thorough investigation, which included reviewing the footage of the crash, police arrested the teenager on Saturday, 16 November, at Glenfield.

He was subsequently charged with a series of grave driving-related offences.

The serious offences included dangerous driving occasioning actual bodily harm and negligent driving occasioning grievous bodily harm, not stopping at the stop line at a red light, and not complying with P1 licence–no P1 plates.

He was granted strict conditional bail to appear before Campbelltown Local Court on 17 December.

This waster should be charged with attempted murder and never again given a licence to drive a car.
When will these Magistrates wake up and come down on these young hoons who think they're on a race track instead of a public road ???
They have no regard for anybody else on the road and should have the book thrown at them 😬🤬

Yet they let off some BMW tosser who killed five people last year in Daylesford, Victoria by running into a beer garden.
The BMW tosser mentioned above was 66 years of age.

Don't blame "young hoons" all the time. Statistically, drivers from the 40 to 65 age group are responsible for more road deaths than the 17 to 25 age group. Here's the proof.

Absolutely! And to think that seniors should be off the roads. Those with many years of experience, many still with excellent reflexes, etc. Former Police member here.

I bet they were nice boys pillars of Society, it makes me sick listening to all the goody two shoes.
1 Charge the Parents for neglect of basic parenting, teaching respect and Manners
2 Not using strict and strong punishment.
3 Taking responsibility for the damage caused.
NOW LISTEN TO ALL THE BLOODY POLICATLEY CORRECT PIN HEADS MOAN. YES ALL OF THEM WHITE YELLOW AND SUNTANED.

Every accident case like these will be handled in Court on its own merits.....this young driver should never drive again IMO and should also be jailed....he should also be made to pay for all medical costs incurred by the two parties that were severely injured.

W passed a p plater being booked this afternoon. 15 mins later he overtook us 2 other cars and a small van all at once, pulling out over double lines and travelling in excess of 120ks per hour in a 100 zone. We were all doing 100-105 so not impeding the traffic. Booking them obviously doesn’t deter them.

No moans from me.

I agree with you. Many of today's parents are not parenting.
