Tech Talk with Dr Al: Backup for Security

Note from the Editor:
This article was kindly written for the SDC by member @Doctor Alan.

In one of my many jobs I was working in a place where all the records were kept on a computer system at the front desk. There had been a break-in, and the ‘system unit’ had been stolen, along with all the student results and lesson information for that subject – hours and hours of work! At the time, privacy was not a great concern because the information was not ‘sensitive’.

There have been other instances in my working career when similar things had happened – not the theft, but simply the loss of data. I think we all assume that our work, once inside our computer, is safe. Don’t be so sure!
