Tap and pay cost me .5% surcharge on Saturday, if I put my savings account card in the machine at Aldi I apparently would not have paid the surcharge.

I have been using Tap and Pay at the supermarket for years, I had no Idea I was paying more for my purchases using my own savings at the check out by tap and pay.
When I complained to the manager, he pointed out a small inconspicuous sign stating this behaviour is legal, I said the practice was probably making the business a fortune for free and I thought the practice was immoral and unfair. I will shop else where from now on, I hate type of tactics, very bad and Sad.
Do you think my view on this supermarket business practice wrong or right.
Ps: ask at the check out, you will find out yourself.

Hi Linjo I too hate yes hate the underhand Ness of charges from my savings account. I did check with management at our fruit veg discount store and was told no charge. It appears one has to ask

Most places are doing it now, even coffee shops though very few have notices up to tell customers, we have to find it ourselves when we check our spending. One would think they have enough worked out in their overheads to add it into the prices they charge without using this method, which means less takings to lug to the bank each day. But then some might complain that they use cash and should receive a discount 🤔

Hi everyone
Happy New Year 🥳 even though it’s the 9th January…
Recently my butcher charged me a fee for using my card..
I have been going to this butcher for more than 30 years and now they are charging a fee..
On my receipt the fee is not displayed and I am confused…
I will ask them next time I visit…

It's probably not your butcher, it's the bank that issued the card machine.

Aldi have been doing this for many years now.. What ROCK have you been sleeping under?? They only got me once with that charge.! I always go over my invoice/receipt before leaving the store! I assume that you don’t do that either to make sure that you haven’t been overcharged for an item! Slow down for a few seconds and you find that it will be a very infrequent occurrence that you will be overcharged for an item!

Stop being so lazy and spend an extra 6 seconds and enter your PIN like me and the wife do!

I've know Aldi has been charging this fee for ages if you use tap and pay.
There is a very small sign that is very easy to miss
Aldi has always applied a surcharge to credit cards as long as I have known them. I think it's 0.5% but I believe you can avoid this charge if you select 'savings' . I got caught out once, but never again. I always use cash when shopping these days and if intend shopping at a retail store that charges for using a card, (sometimes with high value items it's unavoidable) I shop elsewhere.

Businesses have been issued new machines which charge a surcharge no matter whether it is a debit, credit or savings card. This is from the banks. To avoid the surcharge insert your card instead of tapping. A few businesses have told me this.
