Sushi lovers, rejoice! Kmart's game-changing new $10 'Sushi Maker Kit' is finally here!

Bring out the chopsticks, everyone – it's time for some delicious homemade sushi!

One of Australia's most beloved retail stores, Kmart, has just released a new kitchen gadget that is quickly becoming a cult favourite and has been hailed as a 'total game changer.'

Introducing, the all-new Sushi Maker Kit!

For just $10, this kitchen gadget promises to help you make perfectly formed sushi rolls every single time – minus all the messy parts of the manual process.

The kit consists of a long, white tube that serves as the primary 'sushi-making machine,' as well as a bamboo mat that enables you to roll and wrap your sushi with ease.

To use the Sushi Maker Kit, first, you have to gather the ingredients for a traditional sushi dish. Check the list below:
  • 2/3 cups of sushi rice (short-grain white Japanese rice or medium-grain California rice)
  • 2/3 cups of water, plus more for rinsing
  • 1 teaspoon of soy sauce
  • 1 sheet of nori (seaweed paper)
  • Preferred filling (imitation crab sticks, slices of avocado and cucumber, raw fish, etc.)

Here are the steps to follow:

First, you have to cook the sushi rice.

Prepare the rice by soaking it in cold water in a medium bowl. Stir the rice around with your fingers to get the starches out, and then drain. Repeat the process another two or three times, or until most of the water is clear.

Fill the bowl with cold water again, and soak the rice for 30 minutes before draining thoroughly. Be sure to check the packet of your rice as instructions may vary slightly.

In a rice cooker or medium saucepan, combine soaked rice, 2/3 cup water, and a small amount of soy sauce.

If you are using a rice cooker, use the setting for sushi rice or white rice.

If you are using a saucepan, place it over high heat and bring it to a boil. Cover, turn the heat down to low, and let the rice simmer for 12 to 15 minutes. Take it off the heat and let it steam, covered, for about 10 minutes, or until the rice is puffed up and fluffy.

Now that your sushi rice is done, it's time to assemble the dish!

To begin, stuff the tube that is provided with cooked rice (make sure to slightly cool it first!). Be sure to push the grains onto the sides of the tube so that you end up with a sushi roll that has more structure.

Then, using the white stick provided (which will also push the sushi roll out later), make a long, wide space in the middle of your rice. You'll be placing your prefered fillings here. We're thinking chicken and avo!

Once the fillings are all in place, put the white stick's head on the opposite end of the tube. Close the whole thing up and make sure the sides are locked.

Using the bamboo mat provided in the kit, place a sheet of nori above it, shiny side-up.

Then, slowly and carefully push your rolled sushi out of the tub and onto the nori. Make sure it is straight and positioned on the paper's side.

Use the bamboo mat to roll the nori over the roll of rice. Lift the bamboo mat out of the roll so it doesn't get stuck, then keep rolling until you reach the far edge of the nori.

Once done, all that's left to do is to slice the whole roll into several pieces and then serve!

Freshness is the key to success when it comes to serving sushi in any form, whether it's a rainbow roll or salmon nigiri.

Even though you could just go to a Japanese restaurant and have a professional chef prepare your sushi for you, making sushi at home can also be a fun and rewarding experience for you and your loved ones!

We must, however, caution that some safety measures must be taken.
