Surprisingly easy diet tips!

Losing weight is hard work, there’s no doubt about it. And with all of the different diets out there, it can be tough to know which one will finally help you shed those extra kilos.
But what if we told you that there was a diet plan that’s not only effective but also easy to follow? No calorie counting or meal prep is required; just simple tips that almost everyone can do.
Sounds too good to be true, right? Well, luckily for us, this isn’t some kind of scam – it’s real advice from a qualified professional.
Sally O'Neil is a nutritionist with over 91k followers on Instagram, and recently she took to the social media platform to share her favourite ‘diet’ to aid in weight loss. In other words: the food plan she recommends to people who are looking to slim down but are unsure of what to eat while doing so.
And trust us when we say that her suggestions are nothing new or whacky – in fact, they might surprise you with their simplicity!
In her informative Instagram reel, O'Neil, the face behind @fitfoodieblog, said she was getting so many questions about the best diet for fat loss.
Her answer: there isn’t any!
‘There are no significant differences in fat loss between any diet at all so long as you are hypocaloric (low in calories),’ she said.
This means that the diet you follow to shed kilos doesn’t really matter (whether it’s keto, paleo, or what have you) as long as the number of calories you consume is less than the number of calories you burn off throughout the day – a.k.a being in a ‘calorie deficit’.
This might get you thinking, ‘well that sounds easy’. As Sally explained there are dietary considerations that go beyond maintaining a low-calorie diet.

This first one is bound to be heartbreaking for those who love their junk food. Sally recommended going easy on ultra-processed foods like chips, lollies, and pizza.
‘Ultra-processed foods have been shown to make you consume more. They’re not satiating, there’s barely any fibre, there’s very little micronutrients most of the time… basically just not good for when you’re on a diet.’
Higher consumption of ultra-processed foods has also been linked to higher rates of heart disease and cancer, so perhaps it would be wise to give this one to Sally (the fact that she’s a nutritionist aside!).

Next pro tip: increasing protein intake.
‘Having a high volume of protein in your diet is very helpful because it has a high thermic effect — it’s bloody satiating,’ Sally said.
Case in point, she adds: ‘Nobody’s ever said, “Oh my God, I binged last night on 10 steaks”.’
Another bonus to a high protein intake according to her is that it helps keep muscle mass even when you’re on a low-calorie diet!
Eating more protein-rich foods also helps strengthen bones and lower blood pressure, so take note, members!

Last but not least is increasing fibre intake — a ‘super important’ tip in weight loss.
‘It helps improve satiating, and also helps reduce the munchies!’, she said.
A diet high in fibre also has the added perk of lowering cholesterol and blood sugar.
‘Just focus on those three things and make sure your calories in are less than calories out,’ Sally ended.
It would be remiss of us here at SDC not to remind you, our dear members, to please consult your doctor if you plan on following any of these steps as we are aware that the tips above might not prove useful in all cases.
