Sunrise's star's vacation turned horror: Discover his shocking medical ordeal

The dreamy snowscapes of Switzerland, often a backdrop for idyllic family getaways and picture-perfect memories, recently became the setting for an unexpected turn of events for Sunrise weatherman Sam Mac.

The 42-year-old TV personality was soaking up the winter wonderland with his fiancée Rebecca James and their two young children, Margot, aged two, and Mabel, just five months old, when their holiday bliss was abruptly interrupted by a distressing medical emergency.

Sam Mac, known for bringing the weather to life for viewers across Australia, took to social media to share the harrowing tale of their 'nightmare' holiday ending.

In a heartfelt social media post, he revealed that his darling Rebecca had suffered a severe fall on the icy terrain, resulting in her wrist breaking in two places.

The incident necessitated urgent medical attention and surgery, casting a shadow over their festive celebrations.

The social media post featured a poignant image of Sam cradling Rebecca in a hospital bed, her arm supported by a sling, as she bravely faced her predicament.

Sam's caption, infused with his characteristic wit, read, 'It’s giving Swiss Hospital Chic.

Oh Dear.' Despite the light-hearted tone, the gravity of the situation was not lost on his followers.

Sam's admiration for Rebecca's fortitude shone through in his words.

'My mind is still blown by how well she withstood the pain. So so calm,' he expressed.

He shared an intimate glimpse into their ordeal, noting Rebecca's incredible strength as she breastfed Mabel en route to the emergency room.

Sam humorously added, 'Her pain threshold is honestly in another stratosphere (well, she is engaged to me).'

The post was met with an outpouring of support from fans and colleagues alike, including fellow Sunrise star Edwina Bartholomew, who quipped about a potential 'Swiss Army Knife collab.'

Followers chimed in with sympathy and encouragement, wishing Rebecca a speedy recovery and praising the couple's strong bond.

In a light-hearted video accompanying the post, Sam showcased his impromptu hairstyling skills, humorously attempting to fix Rebecca's hair with a clip while she lay in the hospital bed.

The clip underscored the couple's ability to find moments of levity even in the face of adversity.

Sam's followers rallied around the family, offering comfort and healing.

The couple, who announced their engagement in 2023, have been a testament to love and partnership.

Sam had previously shared the news of their engagement on social media, alongside a photo of Rebecca sporting her diamond ring, and had spoken highly of her, describing her as 'calm, strong, and unintentionally funny.'

The young family, which grew with the arrival of Mabel in August 2024, has shown resilience and unity in the face of this unexpected challenge.

As they navigate Rebecca's recovery, the support from their community is a heartwarming reminder of the collective spirit surrounding them.

For God's sake - the drama and hyperbole. The woman only broke her wrist, she wasn't killed as was Liam Neeson's wife many years ago! THAT was a tragedy! A broken wrist is just an inconvenience!
Same as the hoo-haa afforded to royal family and their "accidents" like Princess Anne and her minor concussion after a fall from a horse.

At least Sam Mac and his family is relevant in Australia.

l would have thought a broken ankle would have been worse .
Natasha just brushed off her headache after she fell instead of looking into it.Such a shame she was a lovely very witty actress so funny in ''Maid in Manhatten''

Dear god! Is that all?! I thought someone had suffered something serious. Anyone who can afford to holiday in the Swiss Alps at the height of the season can afford the best in medical care and help with daily living, unlike most other Aussie mums who have to do the best they can with much less.

She's young, the wrist will heal and her life will go on as normal. I prefer to reserve my sympathy for those who battle day in, day out, with chronic illness and pain.

I broke my wrist once. 85 years ago. I recovered!

You wouldn't be a fan of US news media shows such as NBC and CBS.

Four people sitting on sofas all talking at the same time. The subtitle function on your television goes into overload!
Not my idea of entertainment - it wouldn't be so bad if they just talked over each other but the yanks have to shout in normal conversation. Can' handle them most times - sorry to any American SDC readers.

this is really a pretty mundane every day event- it's nothing catastrophic or long-lasting. Nothing to do with who they are for me, but really- Imagine how news articles would be if we all put our accidents etc in them. really. Surely there was something else that could have filled the space..
