Sunrise's Matt Doran just got 'sassed'—first day at work for the New Year!

New Year's Day celebrations are known for their joy, laughter, and sometimes, a bit of sass. This year, it was none other than Channel 7's Sunrise anchor, Matt Doran, who found himself on the receiving end of some playful banter.

The incident, which left the Sunrise panel in stitches, occurred as Doran was making his way to the studio on the first day of the year.

Doran, a well-known figure in Australian television, did a quick service station detour when the cashier decided to have a bit of fun at his expense.

'On my way to work this morning, stopped off to get a coffee and a little snack, and the attendant says to me “first snacks of the New Year then”,’ Matt recounted, feigning outrage at the cheeky comment.

The unexpected quip sent the Sunrise panel into a fit of laughter, with Doran playing along and expressing his mock displeasure at being 'sassed' so early in the morning.

'I was sassed on the way into work,' he said, much to the amusement of his colleagues.

Monique Wright, another member of the Sunrise panel, couldn't resist joining in on the fun. She playfully asked Matt how his 'New Year's resolutions are going,' adding to the light-hearted ribbing.

Wright also shared her love for working on New Year's Day, saying, 'It is my favourite morning of the year to come to work, because there are still people pirouetting along the sidewalk.'

While the banter was all in good fun, it's clear that Doran's New Year's Day started on a humorous note. Despite the early morning sass, he revealed that he had a quiet New Year's Eve, opting to tuck in early.

Doran, who is married to TV producer Kendall Bora, proposed to her on New Year's Eve in 2020, making the occasion a special one for the couple.

Just a week before the New Year, Doran took to social media to share a heartfelt Christmas message with his followers.

'Merry Christmas from the Doran-Boras!! And on behalf of both of us...A huge thanks to all the amazing Sunrise viewers this year...See you again in 2024,' he wrote.

This incident serves as a reminder that even our favourite TV personalities aren't immune to a bit of playful teasing.

It's these light-hearted moments that add a touch of human connection to our daily news intake, reminding us that behind the polished exterior, they're just like everyone—navigating their way through the ups and downs of everyday life, one cup of coffee at a time.
