Beloved Sunrise sports presenter Mark Beretta has found himself in the spotlight this week after news broke of his shocking separation from his wife of 22 years Rachel Beretta.
Beretta, 57, has been a fixture on Australian television for decades, entertaining Sunrise viewers with his sports segments since joining Channel 7 in 2004. However, behind the scenes, the veteran presenter quietly went through a major personal upheaval.
In a brief statement over the weekend, Beretta confirmed he and Rachel had separated earlier this year after 22 years of marriage.
'At the start of the year, after a great deal of reflection, Rach and I came to the conclusion that a separation was best for us,' Beretta said.
'We remain good friends, and our two children and grandchild remain our focus and priority as we move forward with love, dignity, and respect.'
He and Rachel lived with their two children, Ava, 19, and Daniel, 16, in a luxurious Mosman home until the sale of the property in May for $13 million. The listing was slashed by $1.75 million before the sale.
The following day, Beretta shared more shocking news with his followers revealing his beloved father David had been battling cancer.
But the revelation also had good news with it as David had now won his fight against the disease, thanks to medical breakthroughs.
Beretta began his post saying: 'It’s a new day and I am grateful.'
'Thank you medical scientists, cancer researchers, oncologists and wonderful nurses because this week you saved my dad’s life.'
'Medical science is astounding. Never thought I would need the work of our brilliant researchers or the breakthroughs funded by the awesome [non-profit charity, Tour De Cure] team, but this week my dad needed it all and more.'
'My entire family is eternally grateful and I will be stepping up my efforts with this great charity. Heartfelt thanks to all.'
Colleagues of the newscaster expressed their support in the comments.
Weather presenter Sam Mac said: 'Sometimes karma does the right thing.'
While former Sunrise presenter David Koch added: 'Great news mate.'
And Edwina Bartholomew replied: 'Wonderful news. All our love to your Dad.'

Mark Beretta also recently opened up about the pressure of balancing his high-profile carer with his family life.
'Looking back, you think, I would have loved to spend more time at home, but life is what it is and you make the most of it,' he said.
'I love my job so much and I love being with the team.'
'It’s just never on my radar to change careers or to not be part of Sunrise. It’s such a magical work opportunity. I mean, we do over four hours of live TV every day, you know, a lot of people on TV don’t do that a week or a month.'
