Sunrise Weather Presenter, Sam Mac, Just Made a Big Announcement

The world of television weather presenting has seen a lot of changes over the past few years. But one thing is still certain; Sam Mac is one of the most popular–not to mention recognisable–weather presenters in Australia.

And rightfully so! Not only is Sam an incredibly talented presenter with a unique flair, but his enthusiasm and good humour are also highly infectious. In fact, even when delivering forecasts of imminent weather patterns, he seems to do it with a smile.

It goes without saying then, that we here at the SDC are over the moon with the news of Sam Mac announcing that he'd just signed on for another two years (at least!) as the Sunrise weather presenter.

The cheeky weatherman made the exciting announcement with a humorous twist on his social media accounts, telling his followers that he is 'crazy' not to keep going with his job as he enjoys it very much.

'Announcement… After seven incredible years as the Sunrise weatherman, I’ve decided…'

He continued: 'That (being the weather presenter) is arguably the best job in the world and I’d be crazy not to keep going.

'So I’m delighted to announce that I have just committed to at least two more years in the role☀️'

The announcement came just months after Sam and his partner, Bec James, welcomed their daughter Margot into the world. But as the dedicated dad that he is, Sam managed to figure out a way to make the very gruelling travel schedule of his job work for everyone.

'The Sunrise team & particularly our super boss Sarah Stinson have been so supportive and flexible with my new life as a dad,' he wrote. 'It means a lot 💜. We’ve managed to find a way to make the gruelling travel schedule work for everyone.

'I can’t wait to take our little family on the road & show Bec and Margot some of the best spots Australia has to offer (open to suggestions for next year).'

He went on to thank the viewers for their support and warm messages, revealing that it often makes his day when he's stopped in airports or cafes for a quick selfie.

'I feel the love you have for the show and most of you even seem to embrace my alleged "humour".'

'It often makes my day when you stop me at airports or cafes etc to say hello and get a selfie (providing the lighting & angles are correct 🤳).'

Key Takeaways

  • TV personality Sam Mac has signed on for another two years as Sunrise weather presenter.

We here at the SDC have only the warmest congratulations to send to Sam and Bec on their new extended family, and we wish them the best of luck for years of travelling and adventures ahead.

Yair, right. Once upon a time, our local telebishion weather "guru" was rabbiting on about a sudden, severe thunderstorm which came through and did a lot of damage. The studio talking head asked him, "Where did that come from?"
The font of all weather knowledge replied, "Um, from the sky."
And that sums up the amount of trust you should have in these "experts" when it comnes to weather forecasts and "reporting".

That's the thing, Sam Mac is a presenter, not a meteorologist. Anyone could be a presenter so long as they can read a tele prompter. It's understanding the why's and wherefores of the weather that makes a good weatherman, someone that can explain why things are happening. The last time I bothered to look there were only two meteorologists working on the tv, my son on ABC and a sky news weatherman. :)

Pretty faces and wit win every time. The weather facts and figs? They're in the too-hard basket. And the plebs wouldn't comprehend too much, either.

There's an awful lot to be said about the old-time sailors' sayings about the weather. For instance, ask Professor Google about the one which goes "Mackerel scales and mares' tails ... " Pity the weather "presenters" didn't look them up once in a while. Then they might establish a little bit of credibility for themselves.
