Sunrise star Natalie Barr recalls emotional family moment: ‘Cherish the new beginnings’

It's something that all parents of school-aged children can relate to—the intense mix of emotions that comes with watching your child grow up before your eyes. One day you look at them, and instead of tiny, round-faced kids, you see tall, young adults with bright futures ahead of them.

Recently, Sunrise co-host Natalie Barr opened up about a very special moment that she shared with her family, giving a touching glimpse into her and her family's lives.

In a post to her social media account, Nat shared a selfie of her preparing to attend her 18-year-old son Hunter’s Year 12 speech night.

'Last speech night,' she wrote.

'When they say the days go slow but the years go fast, they mean it.’

‘Packed the tissues.'

Her heartfelt post struck a chord with her followers, who came out to show their support for Nat and her family.

‘Why do our kids grow up so fast?’ one follower wrote.

‘Wishing you a memorable night.’

‘Been there,’ wrote another.

‘Cherish the new beginnings as well.’

Former Seven star Sally Obermeder commented two teary-eyed emojis, while another follower urged Nat to 'enjoy tonight and the incredible young men you have raised'.

Nat and her husband, Andrew, have another son named Lachlan.

It’s clear that Nat has long been looking forward to watching her sons grow with immense pride and emotion. In September, when she was interviewing Miranda Kerr, who had just revealed she was pregnant with her fourth child, Nat couldn’t help tearing up as she shared her advice with the model.

'So I know it gets busy, but make the most of it,' Nat said.

'Because then you’ll be crying like I will be next week when they have their assembly,' Nat added.

Nat was featured in an Australian Women’s Weekly photoshoot with her two sons in 2021, Hunter and Lachlan. Speaking to the magazine, Nat said that her family meant the world to her.

'My boys and my husband are my life,' she said.

'I may have this amazing career, but they are my number one priority, and they always have been. Andrew and the boys come first.’

‘Of course, I have always been able to run out the door to cover a story when I need to, but I only ever did that when the boys were old enough to deal with it and to be left at home.'

Just recently, Nat had to dip out of the Sunrise studio to interview a very famous person. She had managed to secure an exclusive interview with Sir Richard Branson, who was in Australia to launch his Virgin Voyages cruise ship in Australia.

The memorable day clearly made an impact on Nat and Richard Branson himself.

‘A big hi to all the viewers we met onboard,’ she said.

People online loved their pictures—and Nat’s interview with Branson.

‘Great interview Nat!’ one said.

‘You are fabulous,’ wrote another.

‘Tough job,’ one joked.

Yes, been there 3 times with 4 girls [the eldest still lives at home]. The one thing l missed most was missing the best parts of 7 of years because l was on shift work. As l got home from a night shift they'd be having breakfast before leaving for school & l was at work when they arrived home on an afternoon shift.

On each of their 21st Birthday celebration l played an audio tape with a piece that spoke of their years to that time & how they'd grown into a Princess & would soon meet their Prince leave home & 'wouldn't need me anymore'.

Depending on whether one is emotional or not this can really hit home. Won't be the same for a boy l guess?
