Sunrise’s Kochie leaves viewers laughing after admitting to an embarrassing supermarket fail on-air

Funnily enough, even though a wide variety of products in stores is often considered a strong feature, it can also confuse some.

Sunrise host Davide ‘Kochie’ Koch was left blushing after finding himself in the hot seat on Tuesday morning, admitting to a silly mix-up at the supermarket.

Kochie and Monique Wright, who is temporarily filling in for Nat Barr while she’s recovering from COVID-19, were interviewing a grocery store employee when Monique brought up a common shopping mistake.

‘Do you ever find that people get zucchinis and cucumbers mixed up?’ she asked the worker, while Kochie unexpectedly raised his hand to admit to the fail.

‘When [Kochie’s wife] Lib asked him to steam zucchinis, he steamed the cucumbers,’ she teased, continuing: ‘Is that common?’

The worker clarified that he had never come across the mix-up before, leaving Kochie even more ashamed of the blunder.

‘Oh, good on you Steve for hanging me out to dry!’ he joked.

Kochie proceeded to share a hilarious story that recently went down at his local supermarket, where he usually goes to buy produce every Monday night.

‘I went there yesterday and they had the zucchini and the cucumber next to each other,’ he explained.

‘I turned around and they were all laughing. I asked, “You did that deliberately, didn’t you?”.’

‘I love them!’ Monique added.

The moment was shared on social media, prompting several viewers to flock to the comments to share their thoughts on Kochie’s supermarket fail.

‘My husband does this all the time. He also picks s**t fruits and vegetables… I’m sure he does it on purpose in hopes of not having to do the groceries anymore.’ one woman wrote.

‘Oh dear me Kochie, that’s just sad. You’re obviously not a veggie grower.’ teased another.

‘When I was about 10 (I'm now 50), I rode my bike to the shop to get Mum a head of lettuce but I come back with a cabbage… My mum never sent me to the shop again.’ shared a third alongside several laughing emojis.

‘Can’t blame him! Some vegetables are tricky.’ a fourth argued.

‘I always double-check what they are by reading the signs as they look alike!’ one more suggested.

Well, that was quite the pickle! What are your thoughts on Kochie’s hilarious supermarket mix-up? Dare we ask if you’ve ever been guilty of committing a similar blunder? Let us know in the comments!
