Sunday is family day

Who remembers when Sundays were all about family time? On Sunday morning, the kids all had assigned tasks waiting for them. Yard duties became their regular Sunday ritual. As the day unfolded, anticipation grew for the mouth-watering roast dinner. Ah, those Sundays hold a special place in Aussies’ hearts. Do you have any fond memories of those nostalgic Sundays?

Every second Sunday we would drive to an aunts for lunch and always a 2 hour drive.
Then the other Sundays we would stay home and eat a baked lunch while watching Sunday Wrestling

Going to church and coming home to a beautiful dinner. The house smelling of food awwww.

Sunday was the day we had a baked lunch, chook which dad had chopped the head off on Saturday and us kids had to pluck and gut, that is after we had to chase the chooks around to catch the one dad had picked, our chooks were never in a pen. Baked vegetables from our garden when we had them, usually peas and homemade gravy from the pan juices the chook was cooked in. Also the only time we had dessert was Sunday lunch, usually preserved fruit from our grandparents orchard with jelly or home made ice cream in summer, and fruit with warm custard, rice or sago, tapioca in winter. A dash of cream if we skimmed some off the milk we got from the grandparents, who milked a house cow. Also winter desserts could be blackberry, mulberry, rhubarb and apple, apple or gramma pie, steamed home made pudding or syrup dumplings with custard. Yummy. We always had chores to do before and after lunch, from washing the car, picking up rubbish around the house, helping mow the lawn, helping with washing, housework. There was never any rest for us on sundays.
