Sunday Classics 08.06.2025

Hey members!

We’re back with another Sunday Classic, and this one’s all about romance, charm, and timeless melodies. 💕🎼

This week’s pick is ‘April Love’ by Pat Boone, suggested by our lovely member @Jancgr! Released in 1957, this swoon-worthy ballad became an instant hit, perfectly capturing the dreamy spirit of the era.

Did you know the song was written for the movie April Love, which also starred Pat Boone himself? It went on to top the charts and even scored an Oscar nomination for Best Original Song! With its lush orchestration and heartfelt lyrics, it’s no wonder this tune has stayed in our hearts for decades.

Give it a listen—and let us know what classic we should feature next! Drop your suggestions below! 🎤💫

"Somewhere over the Rainbow".....by Judy Garland 1939. Absolute Classic.:)
Excellent song and entertainer. Bit before my time but mum played it often and I still love it.
If you have never listened to Billy Thorpe and the Aztecs doing it. As another famous Aussie said “do yourself a favour” and listen to it. Great version by a great Aussie band.

Totally agree about Thorpe's version.....so many artists have covered this classic over the years...Judy's version was the first I ever heard as a young boy at home....Mum loved it.

I loved Pat Boone and still have this particular album. April Love got played so many times it's a wonder it didn't wear out!

Can we please have more songs from this era? Most modern songs do not get to me at all like those of the fifties and sixties when there seemed to be so many good singers and songwriters.

"I Remember You". Frank Ifield. This was my Mum and Dad's love song, and they used to sing it together! Have loved it my entire life 💝
Frank Ifield had an Aunt and Uncle living near my mum (in England) and used to visit frequently. He always stopped on the way passed mums house if she was in the garden to say hello and pass the time of day with her. Such a lovely person.
