Struggling to keep your clothes white? This cleaning expert’s trick will make them look brand new again!

One of the most difficult types of garments to maintain is light-coloured clothes. So if you're keeping an eye out for a way to keep your whites looking their best, an Aussie cleaning queen has a simple solution. Let’s get ready to tumble!
A popular home hacks guru, Carolina McCauley, revealed how to make her homemade 'laundry whitening blocks', which she swears by to keep her white clothing and bed linen in tip-top shape.
'This miracle block will replace your detergent and stain remover,' she captioned the TikTok video.
She uses a mixture of baking soda, borax, oxy-bleach, and water to make the whitening blocks, popping a piece into the washing machine with her whites instead of the usual detergent and stain remover.

In a medium-sized bowl, the cleaning expert starts by combining a cup of baking soda with a cup of borax, and half a cup of oxy or oxygenated bleach.
Then, she gradually adds water into the bowl, mixing the solution until it reaches a damp, sand-like consistency.
Carolina proceeds by packing the mixture into a silicone mould (you can also use an ice cube tray) and leaves them to dry. She ensures that the blocks are kept in a safe and dry area before throwing them in the machine's drum each time she does a laundry load of whites.
Her TikTok video amassed nearly 76k views, with dozens flooding the comments section in awe.
‘Thank you, this is great!’ one user praised.
‘Love this tip!’ said another.
A third asked: ‘What is borax? Just seems like a harsh chemical…’

According to Better Homes and Garden, Borax is typically found in multi-purpose products as well as cosmetics. It has powerful anti-fungal properties that make it a great cleaning ingredient. However, it’s not completely safe to use, especially if you have sensitive skin.
‘If you are accidentally exposed to it, it can cause skin irritation, respiratory issues, and eye problems. It’s especially harmful if it’s ingested or inhaled.’ the website read.
‘If you have children or pets at home, make sure to keep borax in a place where they cannot reach it. Make sure to wear rubber gloves when handling borax, especially if you have open wounds or broken skin.’
Previously, another cleaning pro shared their whitening laundry tips and tricks for keeping whites bright and stain-free.
Dina Santos, also vouches for using borax and baking soda to get rid of stains on sheets or clothes. The home stylist also suggested drying white garments under direct sunlight as it offers multiple benefits. Check out more of her laundry tips by clicking here!
Now that you’re equipped with a tried-and-tested laundry tip, you’re bound to have loads of fun (we couldn’t miss the opportunity) in your next wash!
