Strange pricing

Just thought I would share a recent experience.

My wife (non-senior) and I (senior) recently visited SteamTown at Peterborough (South Australia) and both very much enjoyed the day tour and the sound and light show.

There were 2 separate options available

Guided day tour $27
Guided day tour seniors $22 ($5 discount)

Sound and light show $30 for all – no discount for seniors for this.

Bundle (both of above options) $50 for all

I found the bundle pricing somewhat illogical.
It was explained to us how the $50 bundle price was arrived at and non-seniors get a $7 discount ($27+ $30) and seniors get a $2 discount ($22+$30) which we understood but still think it is illogical.

Thinking about it from the point of view of the extra cost of upgrading from the day tour to a bundle it means that the non-senior pays an additional $23.
However the senior gets charged a further $28 which is $5 more than the non-senior for the same thing!
This effectively means that the senior gets given a $5 discount for the day tour only for it to be taken back if a bundle is purchased.
The usual practise is that seniors get a discount!

I emailed them suggesting that they should take a look at the bundle pricing.

Considering the first is $27, the second is $30, you are still getting a $7 discount, which is better than the initial $5 seniors discount. This happens at many places, such as Dreamworld where I sometimes visit with my daughter and her kids. We purchase a family pass which works out cheaper than a one senior ticket and an adult and 2 kids.

The way I read it is that the seniors already have a discount of $5 anyway…. So the $2 extra discount means that the 2 options get a total of $7 discount each……both pay $50..
