Stone Curlews
Our neighbours, the stone curlew couple, making a nest behind our car. The eggs are due to hatch any day now. If we get too close, Father Bird throws a hissy fit! The pair alternate sitting on the eggs, and the female seems to mostly be in charge of night duty, when Father is out howling up a storm under our window while we try to sleep through the noise! We've found that seabirds have better manners than landbirds: seabirds go to bed when the sun sets - landbirds take the setting sun as a wake-up call and go out to party all night! If you've never heard the loud noises made by the pretty Blue Kookaburras we get in FNQ, let me tell you, they are LOUD! And yep, that's gravel the curlews are nesting in...
