Stay cool this summer with this $2 DIY buy from Kmart

Summer is fast approaching, and that means we find ways to stay cool in the heat. And with growing concern about high energy bills, a lot of us are looking for budget-friendly ways to make the hot weather bearable.

Luckily, one mum has come up with a genius solution to help us beat the heat - and you’ll be glad to hear it only costs $2.

According to Kayla, the mum, you can turn a pool noodle from Kmart into a makeshift sprinkler!

While gardeners and those passionate about having a lush lawn can also use this tip to water a larger area in one go, it doesn’t have to be relegated to the yard!

In a video she posted online, Kayla showed how you can use the DIY sprinkler to create a cool water play area for everyone to enjoy.

'Cut a section off the end and cut that section into pieces so you can stuff some in one end to block the hole,' she said.

'Use a cable tie to tie off the end (use your muscles and make sure it's tight!). Use a screwdriver or something else long and stabby to put holes along the top. Then push the hose at the end that's not blocked and put another cable tie around that end. Turn on the tap and let the kids free!' She said in her post.

Kayla warned not to put too many holes in the pool noodle or make it too long. This is because it will impact the water pressure that comes from the hose and means you won't get those large water shoots that make sprinklers so fun.

She added that another version of this trick she's seen on social media uses tape instead of cable ties, so that's an option if you don't have any cable ties at home.

And if you’re wondering why the pool noodle in her video starts off red and ends up yellow - that’s because Kayla went through a trial and error while making the DIY and passed on her advice so we don’t make the same mistake.
