Spotify is hiking their prices once more—find out how much more you’ll be paying!

In the ever-evolving landscape of digital entertainment, music streaming has become a staple for many, offering a convenient way to enjoy our favourite tunes and discover new artists.

However, it seems that the cost of streaming is set to rise, as Spotify, one of the leading music streaming platforms, has announced another increase in its subscription prices.

This news may come as a disappointment to those of us who have integrated Spotify into our daily routines, whether it's for background music while gardening, soundtracks for our morning walks, or simply enjoying the classics from our younger years.

The price hike, which is slated to begin in May, will see users' plans increase by $1 to $3 monthly— an additional $12 to $36 a year.

For those on a premium subscription, the monthly cost will go from $12.99 to $13.99. Meanwhile, families sharing a plan will need to adjust their budgets as their bill will rise from $20.99 to $23.99 a month.

Spotify has justified the increase by stating it's necessary 'so we can continue bringing you the best experience’.

They've highlighted new features such as the 'personal DJ' offering and group jam listening sessions as part of the enhanced user experience.

It's worth noting that this isn't the first time Spotify has raised its prices. Just last year, in July, the premium subscription went up from $11.99 to $12.99, and the family plan saw an increase from $18.99.

The recurring nature of these price hikes has left some social media users expressing their frustration online, with comments ranging from disbelief to outright anger.

One user said, ‘Spotify increasing the price means time to dust off the old Walkman.’

Earlier this year, Spotify also faced criticism over its Terms of Use for authors using its Findaway Voices platform, which assists independent authors in distributing audiobooks.

A controversial clause in the terms led to a backlash from authors and users alike, prompting Spotify to clarify and update the terms to ensure they were fair to creators.

Key Takeaways
  • Spotify has announced an increase in subscription prices for its music streaming service.
  • The price rise is occurring in May, with costs going up by $1 to $3 per month depending on the subscription plan.
  • Social media users have expressed their dissatisfaction with the new price rise.
  • Earlier in the year, Spotify faced backlash over its terms of use for authors on its Findaway Voices platform but later clarified the contentious clauses.

For those of us who are particularly budget-conscious, it's also a good time to review our subscriptions and decide if the benefits we receive are worth the cost. Remember, music is a wonderful part of life, but it shouldn't come at the expense of our financial well-being.

me either Ian. I know nothing about Spotify and no-one can explain to me what streaming is. All I know is a stream is like a little creek with water in it.
It's music that is available through the phone or PC...

My husband uses it as he prefers music from the 60 /70's era and gets impatient with the music on the radio, says most of it now is just crap and cannot even be called music. I tend to agree with him a lot of the time but I still like to hear someone who can actually sing and there are a few of those still around that get air time. He has not bothered to create his own soundtracks but just keys in the name of an artist or band that he would like to hear, I say that is a lazy way he just says "Whatever!"

I'm happy to stick with silence. Sometimes it's good to be deaf.

It'll only be $1 a month. I've got too many albums on there now to get rid of it.

I've already got LP's of the music I listen to but this is so much better having them all now at the touch of a button and haven't paid for them again. And any new albums can be downloaded the day they're released.🙂

$1 per month per subscriber amounts to billions of $ per month extra. Just how much does it cost to run this service. Is this greed or is this filthy greed ? Just how much money do companies need to make. They don't get anything out of me.
