Speeding into trouble: Teenage driver's joyride cost him a whopping fine

As we age, our reflexes might not be what they once were, and our driving habits may need to adjust accordingly.

But no matter your age, there are some driving mistakes that can have serious consequences as one young Sydney driver recently discovered.

The incident occurred on Campbell Hill Road in Guildford, where an 18-year-old P-plater was caught by highway patrol making an 'unsafe manoeuvre'.

The young driver was travelling at a dangerous speed of 115 kilometre per hour in a 50 km/h zone.

Not only exceeding the speed limit but also attempting to overtake another vehicle on the wrong side of the road.

This reckless behaviour resulted in the driver receiving three infringement notices, which added up to $3,568 in fines.

The charges included exceeding the speed limit by more than 45 km/h, not keeping left of the dividing line, and overtaking.

The driver's licence was suspended on the spot for six months, and his number plate was confiscated for three months.

In several Australian states and territories , severe penalties are not uncommon.

Police have the authority to issue immediate licence suspensions at the roadside if a driver is caught speeding by more than 45 km/h over the speed limit.

These offences also carry demerit points that will be added to the driver's record, which can lead to longer-term consequences for their driving privileges.

Additionally, they can impound a vehicle or confiscate its number plates.

A week prior to this incident, a 25-year-old Honda driver was handed a hefty $2,794 fine for driving 130 km/h in a 70 km/h zone in Sydney's south.

These cases highlight the importance of adhering to speed limits and road rules, not only for the safety of all road users but also to avoid severe financial and legal repercussions.

Moreover, irresponsible driving was captured in a footage showing a food delivery driver's narrow escape from being hit by a bus at a busy intersection.

For our seasoned drivers, it's essential to stay updated on road rules, which may have changed since you first got your licence.

Penalties are not nearly severe enough and not advertised much at all. Make these idiots aware of the consequences before they get into a car. If they are caught well take away the licence for a much longer period, crush the car, and inflict a possible prison sentence.
