I loved these slides, always nice and shiny and you never ‘stuck’ partway down. Too many years ago I had a run in with a slide at The Meadows in Edinburgh, we didn’t live far….. I think I was 7 and my cousin was delegated to look after me, shes 5 years older than me. The slide was much higher than the picture shown but the shiny slide was there. Lots of kids played there at the time so there was a queue all the way up the ladder until it was your turn. I got to the top and the next thing I knew I was waking up to find myself on the concrete ground, a crowd of people round me, an ambulance and 2 men with white coats on running towards me with a stretcher. I stood up and started shouting “you’re not taking me away “ and ran home . My cousin ran after me with the ambulance man, but I’d locked myself in the toilet. My mum came home and was told to take me to the doctor immediately because I might have concussion……anyway a couple of days later I was fine with not even a bruise …..my cousin was beside herself about it. Wind forward more years than I care to count and I went back to Scotland to visit remaining relatives. My cousin came up to see me from London and we were talking about my accident……. I thought for all these years that she was upset I got hurt……but no……she was upset because she thought she was in big trouble……..The next time I went to The Meadows the slide had a cage on the top………I think that a lot of equipment we played on would definitely be banned these days……
