'Side hustle for the broke and lazy': how a savvy Aussie mum is making money online

Having an additional source of income, especially one that doesn't require too much effort, can be a blessing.

Say hello to the age of online ‘side-hustles’, where even the ‘broke and lazy’ can make a few extra bucks if they’re digitally savvy.

Georgia, an Aussie mum, took to social media to share her online income-earner tips and tricks.

Known as @grow_with_georgia on social media, Georgia has become the guiding star for many.

Her videos featuring simple yet clever money-making tips have inspired viewers worldwide.

In fact, one of her financial tips she refers to as a ‘side hustle’ had us sitting up and taking notice.

But first, a little nip of context: a ‘side hustle’ is a job that brings in money outside your primary income. Preferably one that doesn’t involve too much effort, right?

Now, let’s dig into Georgia’s side hustle.

Georgia's simple yet genius method involves creating and selling journals online.

'First, you're going to want to go to Amazon.com, and then in the search bar, you're going to type “journals”.’ Georgia advised in the video.

Once done, a display of journal options sold on Amazon pops up. She showcases a paperback journal available for a neat $8.09, and here comes the eye-watering part; it has about 31,000 customers.

Now, grab your calculator—that tallies to a staggering $250,000 in sales!

How is all this achieved? It’s the power of creating passive income and leveraging Amazon’s platform.

Georgia also demonstrates how to create your own journal. Using the free design tool, Canva, she walked us through the process.

First, you sign up, then click on the 'create a design' button and type 'journal' in the search bar.

Choose a design template and then personalise it to make it uniquely yours (important for copyright reasons!).

Now create your one-of-a-kind cover page and a few interior pages before you duplicate it to create a 100-page journal. And it really is as simple as that!

‘Here is your cover page, and then what you’re going to do is click “add page below”.’ she said in the video.

‘It really is that easy!’ she added

What’s next? After your journal masterpiece is designed, download it as a PNG image and publish it on Amazon using Kindle Direct Publishing.

The cherry on top? Amazon prints and ships the journals for you. For free!

The best bit is that you can keep up to 70 per cent of the royalties from your sales. 'All you have to do now is sit back and relax while the royalties flow in.' Georgia cheerily concludes.

Since Georgia posted her video, it has amassed over 60,000 likes, with legions of followers eager to try out this 'side hustle’ for themselves.

Some have even reported success already.

'I tried this and chose a very controversial cover. Sold 209 in the first week, so let's see how it goes in week two. So good because I hold no stock.' said one user.

‘Thank you! I’ve been looking for a budget-friendly way to get started!’ another added.

However, as with everything, it's essential to approach this smartly.

Georgia encourages everyone to read Canva's user agreement and Amazon's Kindle Direct Publishing terms and conditions thoroughly before diving in.

How generous and selfless is Georgia to share this idea 🙏🩷!

What is a Journal all about? How many pages and what is the journal about?
If there is nothing in the journal then it is false and misleading also illegal.

Of course all these people making big bucks from side hustles are declaring their income and paying the proper tax, or are they ripping off the system too.

Journaling is very popular, and requires a 'blank' journal for the user to insert content to. So I have no idea how you can say a journal with blank pages is false, misleading and illegal. People buy the journal precisely because it is empty so that they can personalise it!

"If you can navigate the digital market" yes, like everything these days, so very challenging to a 62yo like me. Yes, I can do a lot online but it takes me so much more time to learn & remember & whilst I'm working to keep food on table & bills paid i do not have the luxury of time unfort
