Sick of missed packages and sneaky fees? Here’s what you can do

Everyone has a delivery horror story—but some come with an unexpected sting.

One Melbourne resident thought they were just ordering nappies, but they ended up paying extra for the privilege.

And it’s not just the money that left them fuming—it’s the growing number of Aussies echoing the same experience.

The frustration began when a Melbourne shopper ordered two boxes of nappies from Amazon.

Although the invoice listed Amazon Commercial Services as the seller, the delivery was handed off to Aramex—a courier service with a reputation for hit-or-miss customer experiences.

'So I ordered 2 boxes of nappies from Amazon. The seller is Amazon commercial services on the invoice,' the user wrote on social media.

'They seem to have used Aramex for the delivery instead of their own drivers.'

Things took a turn when the delivery attempt failed.

According to the post, the shopper wasn’t home at the time and their house is gated—though they noted this had never stopped Amazon deliveries in the past.

'They couldn’t deliver yesterday as I was at work and my house is gated (although this hasn’t stopped Amazon drivers from delivering stuff in the past),' the user wrote.

'Now Aramex is asking I pay $5.50 for them to redeliver it. Wtf?'

Other Aussies quickly jumped in with similar stories, venting about the courier’s redelivery fee and inconsistent service.

'They did the exact same thing to me with a bed frame except my redelivery fee was higher. I paid it and thanked my luck they actually delivered it. Will never order from anyone who uses them again,' one commenter shared.

Another said: 'My first delivery from Aramex during COVID was from the local Kmart 4km away. Aramex claimed nobody was home which we were because, you know, COVID. They wanted an extra fee to try redelivery or I could pick it up myself from their depot 40km away. After much BS they put it on their next run a few days later.'

A third commenter wrote: 'I've run into the same issue. Ended up picking it up from their warehouse in port Melbourne. Took forever, not organised at all.'

Some shoppers said they proactively contacted sellers to complain about Aramex, while others simply vowed never to buy from stores that use the courier.

'They're terrible. I just found out something I ordered is being delivered by them. I've already emailed the company to say I would never have bought off them if I'd known and that when the item isn't delivered I'll just wait until it's returned to the seller and contact them for a refund,' one person wrote.

Another added: 'Aramex is the worst, no (real) tracking, no updates website is often down, slow. Must be cheap?'

Aramex’s Oceania Regional Director, Mark Little, confirmed to Kidspot that redelivery fees are standard if the customer doesn’t collect the parcel.

'As the recipient has stated in the Reddit post, they have a gated home, so the courier did not deliver the parcel as he couldn’t gain access to leave the parcel in a safe place,' he said.

'Aramex senders can choose from various types of delivery service. Some of the delivery options provide for free redelivery.’

'In this case, the sender had chosen an ATL (Authority to Leave) service. With this service, if the parcel cannot be delivered, and there’s not a safe place to leave it, it is taken to a local Hubbed outlet, and the recipient is advised they can collect it at a time that suits them. There’s no fee for this service.’

'If the customer doesn’t want to pick up the parcel from a Hubbed outlet, they can book a redelivery for a fee, as this is essentially a second delivery.’

'We have recently introduced a Receiving Mode service providing a free account for people to easily track and manage their incoming deliveries in one centralised location.'

If you’ve ever been stung by a surprise delivery fee, you know how frustrating it can be when a parcel doesn't arrive the way you expected.

But not all delivery updates are bad news—some companies are actively improving the way packages reach your door.

One major carrier has recently made several changes to simplify pickups, extend service hours, and reduce redelivery issues.
