Shoppers spot rare overseas item at Kmart: 'Tastes stupidly better'

As the Easter season approaches, Australians are accustomed to the annual appearance of chocolate eggs and bunnies lining the shelves of their favourite stores.

However, this year, Kmart has surprised its customers with a twist that's causing quite a stir among chocolate aficionados and homesick expats alike.

The budget-friendly retailer, known for its irresistible deals on everyday items, has leapt into the international market by stocking a selection of Cadbury chocolate products not typically found on Australian soil.

These treats have travelled from the UK and Ireland, bringing a taste of nostalgia and a flavour profile that some argue is superior to the local variety.

An astute shopper's discovery of these imported Cadbury eggs has sent waves of excitement through social media, with many Aussies and expatriates expressing their delight at finding a piece of their homeland in Kmart's aisles.

The social media video, a 'PSA to expats,' has garnered enthusiastic responses, with comments ranging from 'Running to Kmart!' to 'This has made my year.'

But what makes these imported chocolates so special? While Cadbury's Dairy Milk recipe remains consistent, the subtle differences in flavour are attributed to the origin of the ingredients.

Australian and New Zealand chocolates are produced in Cadbury's Tasmanian factory.

In contrast, the UK and Irish versions are made in the historic Bournville village or Dublin facility, where the company's chocolate-making legacy spans over a century.

Typically, Australians seeking the international version of Cadbury's treats must resort to online retailers specialising in British imports.

However, Kmart has brought these sought-after products directly to its customers.

The retailer has confirmed that while most of its Easter range is Australian-made, four UK Cadbury products are available this year.

The excitement over this unexpected offering is palpable, with many declaring the British and Irish chocolate to be 'soooooo good' and claiming it 'tastes stupidly better' than the Australian version.

Despite some grumbles about the $5 price tag, which is higher than what one might pay back in the UK, the consensus is one of joy at the opportunity to indulge in these international delights.

Cadbury has previously addressed rumours that Australian chocolate contains a special anti-melt agent to prevent it from melting in the Aussie heat, which some believed affected the taste.

However, Cadbury's brand manager for Easter chocolate, Meaghan Brodie, clarified that the difference in taste is due to the milk used in production.

'It's about the milk which makes up a substantial part of the product,' she explained.

'We use Tasmanian cows, and they are different to UK cows. So, the chocolate always tastes different because it depends on the milk you're using, which brings through the flavour.'

For those eager to get their hands on a British or Irish Easter egg, Kmart advises shoppers to act quickly and check multiple stores, as the festive season is nearly upon us.

The international eggs available include Cadbury Dairy Milk Buttons, Cadbury Dairy Milk Caramel Nibbles, Cadbury White Chocolate Buttons, and Cadbury Mini Eggs.

So, dear members of the Seniors Discount Club, if you yearn for a taste of the UK or Ireland or are simply curious to compare the flavours, now's your chance to head to Kmart and experience this rare find for yourself. But hurry—these treats are sure to fly off the shelves!
