Shopper shares 'disappointing' Kmart buy: 'Not happy'

We all know how frustrating it can be when you buy something and it doesn't work the way you hoped or expected it would.

You see an item advertised one way, imagine all the ways you could use or need it in your life, and get super excited about finally making the purchase... only to be majorly let down once you bring it home and realise that it doesn't work quite as you thought it would.

It's even more disappointing (and frankly, a little bit ironic) when this happens with storage solutions that are supposed to help us declutter our cupboards and pantries! After all, what good is a storage solution if it can't actually store things?

Unfortunately for one Kmart shopper, that's exactly what happened when she bought an 8-Piece Bamboo Lid Food Storage set from her local store.

According to the product description on Kmart's website, these containers are 'perfect' for storing pasta; however, as one customer quickly learned after bringing them home and trying to fill them with spaghetti, this is not always the case – the lid simply wouldn't fit!

'Disappointed - my pasta will not fit into the container, the lid will not fit,' wrote the shopper on a popular page on Facebook, alongside a photo of the unopened pasta packet and the container it was too big for.

'I tried two different brands of pasta, so someone has got the measurements a little wrong. Oops. So thought I would share this with you if you plan on using this for pasta,' she went on to say.

And while she admitted that the eight-piece bamboo lid set looks really amazing and she doesn't regret her purchase, she was just a little 'annoyed' that it was advertised as being able to store pasta, but in reality, it couldn't.

This storage fail is definitely a major disappointment, not only for the shopper but also for anyone else who had been eyeing this particular Kmart buy!

And even though we have to admit that it's tempting to just snap the pasta in half so that they can all fit inside the container, doing this can actually make pasta lovers scoff at you. (Well, not really… but they don't recommend doing this.)

Spaghetti is intended to be eaten by twirling them around your fork, so if you're left with tiny, broken-up pieces rather than the full ‘noodle’, eating them 'properly' might be difficult. (Also, fun fact: many Italians actually consider it bad luck to break pasta!)

So, what can you do instead?

The good news is that dry pasta technically has no expiration date, but the bad news is that its quality will gradually degrade over time.

Dry pasta, once opened, has a shelf life of around a year, whereas it stays fresh for two years if left unopened. There's also no need to refrigerate or freeze dry pasta since that won't make it last longer anyway.
Tip
If you've ever had a problem with your airtight container being too small for your spaghetti, the best solution is to leave them in the original airtight packing until you're ready to use them.
So there you have it! If you've had your eye on this 8-piece set for a while, you should know that not all of the containers are up to the task. But even so, we still think it's a great thing to have in your home!

What are your thoughts, members? Besides this one, do you have any other Kmart products that failed to meet your expectations that you could share with the rest of us? Feel free to leave a comment!

I actually purchased two of these sets and was disappointed that the Spaghetti didn't fit in it.
But I used them for my different lentils, icing sugar , pasta ect . They seal good , stack well and look nice .

I purchased their fridge containers they look nice but the button on top keeps coming off and this has been from the start. I won't buy again at $15 each.
You can see the condensation in the containers

Who cares if you break the spaghetti or not? You could always NOT eat it as I don't! I hate the texture of anything slimy like pasta, avocado,& cooked rice. Just don't eat cheap, no matter how hard up you are. You are the only one who really cares for YOU. So treat yourself well & you can feed the cheap to the rest of the family.

The point is you are buying a container that is supposed to hold Spaghetti.

Imagine a butter container that you have to cut the butter up to fit in in

The proper way to cook Spaghetti is whole.
