Shopper issues urgent warning on this Kmart's $10 summer gadget

As the Australian summer starts to sizzle, many of us are looking for affordable ways to keep cool.

Kmart, a go-to for budget-friendly items, has recently introduced a gadget that's been flying off the shelves: an over-shoulder light-up fan.

This nifty little device promises to keep you cool on the go with the convenience of being hands-free and featuring fun light-up effects, three-speed modes, and a rechargeable built-in battery.

The Over Shoulder Light Up Fan - Assorted ($10) has quickly become a hot topic in online communities, with one shopper raving about its usefulness for outdoor activities like walks, gardening, and sporting events.

The highest setting even keeps the flies at bay—a true Aussie summer win!

However, a note of caution has been sounded amidst the excitement.

A concerning experience shared by a shopper has raised questions about the safety of these portable neck fans.

The shopper, who had purchased a similar product from ALDI, reported a burning smell during use.

The fan burned her neck, and she started to smoke. Despite attempts to turn it off, the fan remained stuck in the on position, tobacco, for about a minute.

This alarming incident prompted the shopper to contact ALDI, urging them to recall the product.

Although she was promised follow-up communication, it never came, and no recall was issued.

The shopper advised others considering a similar purchase to be vigilant for any unusual smells from the battery section, which could indicate a potential hazard.

While ALDI's version of the neck fan is not currently available, Kmart's over-shoulder light-up fan is still on the market, complete with a 12-month manufacturer warranty.

Kmart's website includes warnings to keep the fan from hair and jewellery and follow usage instructions carefully.

It also notes that the battery should not be exposed to extreme temperatures or low air pressure at high altitudes during use, storage, or transportation.
