Shoe Last​

Who remembers these old shoe lasts popping up around the home? Originally used by cobblers to repair and shape shoes, they often found a second life as heavy-duty doorstops in Aussie households. Many sat by the back door, keeping it open on a hot summer’s day to let the breeze through. Did you have one of these tucked away, and was it ever used for anything other than holding the door? Still have one of these tucked away somewhere in the bungalow. Can't recall ever seeing it being used.

Yes I still have two of them, my dad used to repair/replace the soles of our school shoes many years ago..

My Dad had several in different shapes & sizes. He did 90% of our shoe repairs back in the 60s& 70s.
Wished I had kept them,

My Dad had one of these and repaired all our shoes in the olden days when shoes were leather and made to last.

Yes and its being used as a door stopper. it was once used to repair shoes but the bootmaker is cheaper these days

I’ll go one better. Being a panel beater from the old school. I cut them up and used them in our terms. As Dollies.
