Shockingly horrific find in a Domino's pizza: This customer's story will make you question your next order!
Imagine settling down for a cosy night in with your loved ones, the aroma of a freshly baked pizza wafting through the room. You take a bite, expecting the familiar crunch of your favourite toppings, only to spit out something entirely unexpected and revolting.
This was the horrifying experience of Sophie Fruen, a 21-year-old personal assistant, who shared a ‘sickening’ find in her Domino’s order.
Sophie had ordered a medium 'Create your own' pizza with chicken, mushroom, onion, and sweetcorn for a quiet evening with her boyfriend and sister.
After devouring one slice, she bit into what she initially thought was a crunchy topping.
However, upon closer inspection, she was horrified to discover what she believed was a 'bitten fingernail' embedded in the dough.
‘At first, I thought it was a piece of crispy sweetcorn or onion until I spat it out. I believe it's a fingernail, it's like someone's bitten the end of their fingernail off, I saw it straight away,' Sophie recounted.
‘It was the whole top of a nail. I'm pretty sure someone bit it off because there were tiny breaks in the nail. It made me feel sick, and then I didn't want to eat the rest of my pizza,’ she added.
In a state of disgust, Sophie attempted to contact the Domino's branch from where she had collected the order, but to no avail.
Determined to get answers, Sophie, her boyfriend, and her sister drove to the store with the offending pizza.
Upon arrival, they were met by a mortified staff member who promptly fetched the manager.
After explaining the situation, Domino's agreed to provide a refund and a new pizza. However, Sophie claimed that despite waiting 20 minutes for the new pizza, the promised refund was never given.
'[My boyfriend] waited 20 minutes for the pizza. When he said, “What about the refund?” [The staff] said, “You don't get a refund because we've made your pizza”,' Sophie shared.
She added: ‘I was more annoyed because everyone else's food at home had gone cold so they all had cold pizza.’
‘I had a good look at the replacement pizza because I didn't really want to be eating another fingernail. It put me off, I didn't really want to eat it,’ she admitted.
The incident has left Sophie wary of her once-favourite takeaway spot, stating: 'I don't think it would be as bad if it was a hair because hair can fall out all the time, you can't really help that.’
‘But the fact that that's somebody's fingernail and someone's physically bitten that [is bad]. Even if someone's nail had broken off, you know when your nail's snapped off. You'd say to someone, 'We need to bin the rest of this dough, I've broken a nail”,’ she said.
‘I won't order from that store again,' Sophie declared.
Responding to the incident, a Domino's UK spokesman apologised and asserted that a full refund was offered.
'Great tasting, quality pizza is what we pride ourselves on, and all our food goes through a strict, thorough quality check before it is sent out to customers. We have contacted this customer and offered a full refund and replacement pizza to make up for them not being able to enjoy their Domino's on this occasion,' they shared.
