Shocking Prices or Worth the Splurge? Bondi Restaurant’s ‘Luxury’ Pasta Leaves The Internet Gobsmacked!

From the outside, a night at the iconic Bondi Icebergs restaurant looks like a real treat! After all, who wouldn’t want to enjoy a delicious Italian meal with one of the best ocean views in Australia?

However, dining out with a beautiful view often comes with a hefty price tag, and the reality of this is something one Bondi-based foodie learned for herself when she scoped out the menu at the popular Icebergs Dining Room & Bar.

The woman, who goes by the moniker Special K Gourmet, took to TikTok to express her shock at the $68 price of both of the restaurant's pasta dishes–quail ragù and seafood–especially given the current rising cost of living in Australia.

She understands that the price of things is going up because of expenses like paying employees and rent. However, she's not sure if other people would be willing to pay so much.

‘Is it worth it?’ she asked her followers in a now-deleted video.

This dish is quite expensive because it has an Italian influence, uses high-quality ingredients from the local area, and is served with a beautiful view of the famous Bondi Beach.

The video, which has racked up thousands of views, sparked a lively discussion about whether the cost of the food is appropriate or overpriced.

One person wrote: 'I’ve worked in some very premium restaurants in Australia that have world-renowned chefs and impeccable views and never seen prices like that.’

'It’s totally worth it… if there’s diamonds hidden in the bowl!' joked another.

A third chimed in: ‘$68 tell 'em they're dreaming.’

On the other hand, some offered an educated guess as to why the prices were set so high at this Bondi venue.

'It’s how they keep the clientele they’re after,' suggested one person.

The iconic restaurateur behind Icebergs, Maurice Terzini, defended the prices and explained why the pasta dish was so expensive.

'Well, if you put your thinking caps on, you could probably work it out,' he remarked.

According to Mr Terzini, the restaurant's location is ‘prime real estate’, adding that they have to do extra maintenance because of the salty ocean air, which increases the cost of each customer's meal.

He continued: ‘Like most restaurants on the ocean around the world, the view comes at a price.’

Mr Terzini owns restaurants in Melbourne, Sydney, and Byron Bay. His restaurants are very popular and well-known throughout the country.

This is not the first time diners had an issue with the pricing of the meals in restaurants. In this article, we shared how one diner was left outraged after discovering hidden fees in his bill.

Some people might be curious if the restaurant's pasta dishes are as good as they claim to be. Ultimately, it's up to each person to decide if they want to spend the money, even if cheaper options are available elsewhere.

For some, the cost is worth it to have a memorable experience, like eating delicious food while enjoying a beautiful view of Bondi Beach.

However, it's important to remember that not everyone can afford to dine at expensive restaurants, and plenty of budget-friendly options still offer great food and good company.

At the end of the day, the dining experience is about being with loved ones and creating memories together, no matter where you choose to eat.
