Shocking In-flight Incident: You Won't Believe What These Parents Did In Their Plane Seat!

Air travel can be a mixed bag of experiences. From the thrill of jet-setting to new destinations to the cramped quarters and close proximity to strangers, it's a unique environment where social etiquette is paramount. However, sometimes fellow passengers can leave us in disbelief with their actions, as was the case in a recent flight that has left the internet buzzing with shock and disgust.

Imagine settling into your seat, ready for a peaceful journey, only to be hit by an unexpected and unpleasant odor. This was the reality for one passenger who witnessed a family engaging in what many would consider an in-flight faux pas of the highest order.

The passenger, who shared their ordeal on Reddit's Delta subreddit, was appalled to see the parents of a young child changing a soiled diaper right there in their seats. The smell, as described by the original poster (OP), was 'horrendous,' and the act itself was seen as a blatant disregard for basic hygiene and consideration for others.

The family of five, with three children, the eldest appearing to be around six years old, seemed oblivious to the discomfort they were causing. The OP, unable to bear the stench, eventually switched seats to escape the olfactory assault. When questioned by a flight attendant about the seat change, the passenger didn't hesitate to explain the situation, emphasizing the severity of the smell.

The flight attendant promptly addressed the issue, informing the father that changing diapers in the cabin was unsanitary and that such tasks should be performed in the bathroom. Thankfully, the father complied without resistance, and the situation was resolved without further incident.

The online community was quick to react, with hundreds expressing their sympathy and sharing their own similar experiences. One commenter pointed out that there is 'no need to deal with that s**t in the cabin,' while another recounted a time when the smell from a similar situation was so overpowering that it woke passengers from their sleep.

It's important to note that aeroplane bathrooms are equipped with changing tables for this very reason. Not only is changing a diaper in the cabin unsanitary, but it also poses a health risk to other passengers and can create an uncomfortable environment for everyone on board.

This incident serves as a reminder that when traveling with young children, it's essential to plan ahead and be mindful of others. Parents should always use the designated changing facilities to ensure the comfort and health of their fellow travelers.

For our senior readers who may be seasoned travelers, you know the importance of maintaining decorum and respect in shared spaces. It's also a good idea to be prepared for such situations by carrying a small travel-sized bottle of essential oil or vapor rub to dab under your nose in case you encounter any unpleasant odors.

What is so "horrendous" about a baby's poo-ey nappy? Doesnt their own shit smell? And not all airline toilets have a change table. Talk about first world problems....

This made me smile.
I heard on the radio this morning, one of the male announcers admitting he barfed all over his baby when changing her nappy. The smell was to much for the inept young dad. Further to that, he looked down, saw his own digestive fluid, then let loose again. I thought that was funny.
When taking a nappy wearing child on a plane, common sense should prevail. Pretty thoughtless on the part of the parent I think. At least the flight attendant handled it, as should have been.
Good thing the radio announcer wasn't on the plane. It would have been a chain reaction waiting to happen.

The issue is changing the child’s smelly nappy in a confined space and an area that other people had no chance of escaping from. Common decency and the rights of others for a comfortable space which they have paid for, should have prevailed.

I can’t say I’d like it too much but it wouldn’t really bother me. But if there was a change table in the toilet it would probably been easier to change the baby there instead of struggling in a confined space.

So is a plane seat
And I fully agree with you.

The parent could have taken the child into the toilet, laid it on the wash basin table if no baby change table (admittedly a very small space), removed the soiled nappy, given the child’s bum a cursory wipe and taken it back to the portable baby bed I assume they were assigned on boarding where the complete clean-up was completed. It is not very pleasant to have that odour wafting through the whole cabin, especially the stronger odour the passengers closest to the baby would have had to put up with. Remember there are no opening windows on a plane either to let the odour out.

"Good morning ladies and gentlemen, this is your Captain speaking. Welcome to Flight Shite, we will be experiencing really crap weather. The meal will greasy pork and jellied eels with frogs eggs, sorry I mean tapioca pudding. On behalf of the crew we wish you a really shitty flight on Flight Shite."

Words would fail me if a parent would deliberately change their child's soiled nappy in their seat on a plane next to fellow passengers. Wafting all of the smell around for all the other passengers to experience. Disgusting would be a word, if a parent would not appreciate or prefer the change facilities awarded to give parents the privacy, they require to clean their child and dispose of soiled nappies. 🤬

The newsletter states:-

Meanwhile, this couple’s ‘unsanitary’ practice in a public space left many horrified. What happened?

The question is....is a commercial airliner considered a public space? Yes and no, depending who you believe!
There are certain things you just do not do in your seat in close proximity to other passengers, and I think changing a soiled nappy next to fellow passengers would be very close to the top of the lists ranking. When you have facilities on the plane provided for such things. Very inconsiderate individuals regardless of it being public spaces.
